Question

Does anyone know the best way to connect satellite co-ax together?I had to cut the cable from dish to digibox because of a builder who attempted to hack into it thinking it was the tv co-ax!

TIA

Just put F-Connectors on each end and get a female/female coupler.

pictures here...

Coupler (10378)
F Connector (10611)

Any local satellite specialist should be able to do them for a couple of quid tops.

and if they are outside put some good waterproof tape around them and quite a bit of the cable before the connectors.

Why not pay to have it rewired and make the builder pay?

On a similar note people recommend CT100 cable. Is this just for satellite or can i use it for tv as well?Is the 100 its' resistance in ohms?Does it say CT100 on the outside of the cable?

TIA

I thought the satellite co ax cable is better not to have a join in it, as this results in poor picture quality.i personally would replace the complete cable and send the bill to the builder, was the builder's name BOB?

I agree, the join does loose picture quality, you MAY find the picture breaks up more easily in bad weather for example.

the ct100 cable is not the same as coaxle, there is a thin copper wire in the centre, also the cable has a cavity of air around it. If the cable is bent round a 90deg bend, it can loose signal aswell.

Another thing to think about when joing a cable outside, if water was to get into the join, it would have a clear run inside the cavity of the cable, straight into the Digibox.....kaboom!

£60 service call through SKY and send the bill to the builder.

The Cable is CT100 - which of course is coax - its just a particular grade of coax (Generic term for 1 Core with dialectric and shielding)

e.g. http://www.letsautomate.com/10012.cf...&CFTOKEN=10031

It can very easily be used anywhere you want co-ax and is better than the nasty cheap brown stuff you find usually.

If you do want to join rather than replace and the builder wont pay (try £2 option before £60 ?) and it is outside then when you buy the connectors get some self-amalgamating tape to wrap round it. (as used at the LNB-Cable join)

The join is inside. It's actually inside the wall!It was an external cable which the builder routed down the now internal wall behind the plasterboard and is accessed where the tv point is.I hope all that made sense. He then cut the plastic/honeycomb layer to expose the copper core which he then bent to go through the terminal on the wall tv point. However the terminal screw head has snapped off so i had to physically cut the cable hance the problem.
While messing about with all the cables i've replaced some of the tv co-ax cables and plugs and the satellite picture seems to have sorted itself out!I've yet to fit the female/female joint and f-connectors on the satellite cable! It's presently just twisted together!
