Default iPhone unlocking

I've got an iPhone 4 that is locked to Vodafone and need to get it unlocked.
Can it be done over the Internet or do I have to take it to a shop.
I was told it would cost about £20 so far the cheapest I can find it is £40

You could always try this

http://campaigns.vodafone.co.uk/UnlockCodeRequestForm/

Nothing to lose really even if your not a customer, just say a relative gave it to you if they say anything.

I believe that Orange are dearest at £20:42. I understand that it will be unlocked through iTunes, although I am yet to unlock my own.

My girlfriends magically unlocked itself after an iTunes OS update and restore, but it is possible that Three unlocked it and that the first iTunes update coincided with the upgrade.

Yep they are unlocked by iTunes, it's free to unlock if it's on contract and if on payg then there's a small fee taken out of your credit, do the online process and then you get a text when ready to unlock then plug into iTunes and it will unlock eventually, there a bit of a delay but eventually does, I did same when I gave my old iPhone to missus.

Are you serious? Its blacklisted, so what difference does it make which service provider it was locked to? It cant be used anywhere in the country now.
