Upgrading Early with O2
I'm 19 months into my 24 month contract with O2.
I fancy upgrading and don't mind paying the termination fee of £83 to do so.
Problem is, according the them, this is the only chance of 'upgrading' but I will have to have a new number as they will close my existing account.
Surely, if I want to pay them money and increase my monthly contract, they should entertain the idea. All the online advisors say is 'computer says no!'

If your happy to pay out your contract then simply tell them you will leave and take your number with you. That should stop them messing you around.

Had a similar problem with voda.
If you are with O2 direct, just ask for your PAC code & transfer it onto another providers a PAYG sim for a month.
Then simply transfer it back to whomever you chose after.
You'll quite often (not with Voda) get a better deal as a new customer.

I'm in a similar boat at present.
My phone broke so went to cpw to inquire about a fix.
I have protection plan and geek squad but they asked me of I've tried taking to the market stall to see if they can fix it!
I then asked about an early upgrade and they advised me £185 ! I then asked about a new contract to which I was told I'd not keep my number and would have to pay full wack on contract?
Seems a tad daft. I'm holding out until February where I can upgrade.

Just spoke to retentions. The online advisor didn't know what they were talking about.
Will decide this afternoon and place order tonight.

I did it a couple of years ago.
You do end up with 2 contracts and therefore a new number, but you can then get your number switched over after a week or something like that.

Speak to someone on the phone, might take three attempts but they can do better deals!
I broke mine a month before my early upgrade, the shop advised me to take out a new contract, cancel my existing one and then swap my number. The shop said it would be twenty quid to terminate my contract yet when I rang up to actually cancel, they said I could have just upgraded extra early for free!

Not all companys will allow a number transfer on a new contract outside of 30 days,
Orange on the other hand, will change your number as often as you wish, at any time as long as you have a PAC code
All are getting difficult about early upgrades... should go back to 12 month contracts and done with
