Why don't motorbikes have a front reg plate?
I know years ago they would fold out into the wheel causing obvious safety issues but surely technology has moved on and we can now make a safe front plate for motor bikes!
It seems my car plates are just there as easy access for speeding camera's to get monies from me while the chap on his sports bike goes past on his back wheel laughing at the cameras!

I'd make them have a QR code on all sides of their helmet, and cyclists too ! Could be really small yet still be read by modern surveillance cameras.

It's a safety issue, a front plate being potentially lethal to pedestrians in a minor collision. Also where would you fit one big enough to read. It is quite a handy safety feature when going past foreward facing speed cameras, saves having to brake hard like evryone else causing the person behind to rear end you.

Not at all...but IF speed cameras are for safety purposes, then surely, bikers, who make up only 4% of road users, yet are involved in 38% of serious accidents and fatalities, ought to be targeted?
Yet the present love of the forward facing camera so they can see who is driving, makes it impossible to catch speeding bikers.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, how many of us on here have total legal cars & never break the law? Do we all really want more legislation to target road users wether on 2 or 4 wheels?

Now that is a big IF.
As a motorcyclist myself I do tend to adhere to restricted speed limits, 30's, 40's and 50's where you would be more likely to encounter a speed camera, but not just for the sake of the speed camera itself, but these restricted areas are more likely to be a stretch of road that is or has been associated with a higher percentage of potential danger to either the road user or pedestrians.
People just tend to slow down at speed camera sites, regardless of which way they are facing and then just speed off again. This isn't any different for bikers. Once motorists are familiar with speed cameras then they tend to ignore the reason they were put there in the first place!

Two flaws.
1. Not a legal requirement for cyclists to wear helmets.
2. What abouts motorcycling Sikhs who don't have to wear helmets, i don't think it would be practical to print it on their turbans

I used to work with an Indian (Sikh) who was knocked off of his Honda step through whilst wearing a turban. He suffered extensive head injuries and was awarded enough money in damages to buy a house.

To the OP, where on earth on the front of a motorbike would you put a reg plate, safely?! Your argument is why most new cameras are rear facing cameras ie they catch the rear plate so get cars and motorcyclists too.

I know, I was responding to corradoboys comment regarding cyclists

You're right in that there is no legal requirement for cyclists to wear helmets, but this is a thread about MOTORcyclists where there is a legal requirement.

Way back in the day I used to have motorbikes - with front numberplates ..... I was one of those old boys who could ride a bike WITHOUT the need to have a High Beam on looking like a right dick.
Anyway - a lady stepped in front of me and my front numberplate went between her legs - it took them 2 days to wipe the smile off her face ........ and that's the reason they were banned.

2. I'm not a big fan of religion, and especially when it is used to flout the law, so the human rights lawyers could go swivel on this one. If you don't like it, sod off to somewhere that does allow it !

I always ride along with high beam on when filtering through stationary or slow moving traffic, but then turn it off when the traffic eases!
