Walking boots
I'm not winning, trying to find some decent boots.
Had Hi-Tec (£25) to start with, cheap and cheerful, lasted 7 months.
Then i got some Tresspass Softshell DLX ones £100 (http://www.trespass.co.uk/mens-rhythmic-00191). They were the most comfortable footwear, but were like a sponge, not even close to being waterproof. I sent them back.
Got these instead, Trespass Belas (http://www.trespass.co.uk/mens-belas-00896). Not that comfortable and whilst more waterproof, still can't handle a wet football field.
So.....i'm after some new walking boots for this winter. Living in Scotland it's obviously gonna be wet. They're primarily for walking the dog, about 2 hours every day. So comfort is as important as being waterproof. Will do a little bit of hiking, but more trekking than mountains.
Really liking the Salomon boots. Anybody got them? They were recommended to me. Any alternatives??
Salomon Comet 3D GTX £105

For walking and hiking I use RAF/Army issue Ambush Combat Boots, medium over ankle height, really comfortable and waterproof.
Not as glamourous looking as the label ones, but long lasting and very comfy.

It does make you wonder, when branded "boots" that are glorified trainers cost a hundred and fifty notes or more, yet tried and tested leather army boots are a third of the price!!

I have some Dewalt boots. £30 from costco. I have been in near ankle deep water and kept dry. One does rub an ankle a little a year on but they are pretty light and comfortable.

Brasher boots get my vote,
I tend to prefer leather boots over fabric or suede, tend to keep stain free for longer in my eyes.
Current brashers are thsese

I was thinking of posting a very similar question as I am looking for the same thing.
The Salomon boots seem to be quite good. Was looking at some in a shop recently, the thing I like about them is they are not too stiff. The soles on some boots are really hard (which need to be depending what they are being used for) but these seem to be, well for me anyway, a good comprimise between a trainer and a full on mountain climbing type boot.

I use Han wag boots for exercises as the offer great support and waterproofing, had them since Iraq in 2006. I prefer them to Lowas as well
However I done 4 days in the Grand Canyon last year and bought a pair of Karrimor boots from sports direct, awesome boots but lack any waterproofing.
Good luck

Yeah, i know what you mean. I want something trainer-like, but better wearing. I struggle with my feet with rubbed ankles etc, so comfy is up there and I just avoid the hard leather/army-style boots.

I have just the boot for you.
Regatta Xert, waterproof, breathable and vibram sole, pretty much the most comfortable boot i have ever had, they were down to £60 from £120 and still are, so i took a punt on them, i do 6miles a day in them and they look the same after 6 months apart from the mud.
I will also say you won't go wrong with Salomon, another fave of mine.

How do you stand on the waterproof thing? With things like Salomons.
Trespass were really good, no qualms, just took the boot back and apologised.
Regatta Xert you say....off to google.
EDIT: Hmmm, the Regatta boots get pretty poor user reviews.

I also prefer leather to fabric, and that's for hill-walking. I used to have Brasher Hillmasters (which I recommend) and now have Scarpa Rangers (which I also recommend). If you are going to be out a lot, I'd deffo say leather. But whatever you get, base it on how they feel, not anything else.

So they need to be comfy and have a V cut out at the back or be lower so they don't rub, and like you i need them to flex.
Having had walking boots for almost 30yrs i learned that fit and feel is the most important thing for me, just buying the most expensive boots out there doesn't make them good for my feet, been there done that.
I think reviews are a bit subjective dependant on use, i have my LA Sportiva mountain boots for the full blown hiking, but these Regatta as an all weather medium terrain dog walking boot, are really comfy and have so far kept the rain out as well as costing peanuts, that said i wouldn't take them to do some serious hiking, but neither would i the salomons and i currently have 4 pairs of those still in regular use.
I'm a bit of an Imelda Marcos when it comes to foot ware.

I thought it about time I invested in some decent boots so after a bit of research I toddled off to the local outdoor shop. I spent ages trying on various makes.
I have broad feet so finding the right fit can be a right pain in the ****!! I finally settled on some made by a company called 'Keen'. They're guaranteed fully waterproof and fit really well. They were £120 but seem well worth it.

Hi-tec boots are ****e, I've had 2 pairs with the sole fall off them! Proper Lowa mountain boots are awesome, I've got a pair that are about 7 years old and they're still going strong, a little worn but still in good working condition!

the only way to choose walking boots is to go to a shop and try them on to find ones that fit properly as different manufactuers make them in different widths etc and being comfortable for mile after mile is vital.
As to the brand Salomon i had a pair many years ago on which the sole snapped in 2 across the middle which if it had happened miles from home would have been a really problem so i wont touch them with a barrage pole.
Personally i wear Meindel Burma Pro on my second pair in 7 years and they are gortex lined and keep feet dry on day waling in pouring rain in wales or the Lake district and are fine for a 15 mile hike in Essex.
I have had Scarpa ZG65 which are a fabric boot which arent as well cleated so i would use for serious hill walking but might suit you.
I have heard good things about Brasher but not owned them myself

I got a pair of these from decathlon,
about two years ago, id wear nothing else if i could
they are like slippers
you could literally walk with no socks on, they are comfier than a pair i tried on for double the price.

I got some from TK max that had a swiss army knife logo that were waterproof up until I had a hangover and the dogs protested their lack of a walk by chewing them up. Every other pair I have tried has been pretty f&cking far from waterproof when walking through long wet grass and mud for any length of time.

I did go and try a shop pair first for size (needed in my case 1 size bigger than normal), In the shop they were £150 so got a bargain online.
