Default Best hand held razor for a close shave ?

Ive been using Gillette Fusion for a while, they are ok but i'd say you can do better.

So what would you say is a good hand held razor to give a good, close shave ?

I have also for a Gillette Fusion but I got fed up paying silly amounts for razors.
Tried a Wilkingson Sword Hydro and it ripped my face to pieces! Literally. I could feel every whisker being ripped rather than cut. I then tried an old fusion blade that I thought was past its best. All I will say is that you get what you pay for.

I really cannot fault the Fusion blades.

Mach 3 Turbo i use IIRC and always been happy enough.

Going against the grain helps get smoother, but i'm usually a bit scared to do that till i've used the blade a few times.

Still using a Gillette Sensor Excel, with either twin, or triple blades.
Recently bought a cheapy with replaceable blades from Sainsways, it's in the bin, I've gone back to the Gillette.

Buy genuine blades and they do the job and last for ever...well, nearly.

As a guy of 43 & who shaves every day I do prefer the Gillette Mach 3
& gel - not foam / however I don't mind using a disposable with a hot sink of water over the gel & having a wet shave .

I still use the Gillette M3 Power blades but don't use the powered function of the handle. Before that was a Mach3 fan, but was given an M3 razor and pack of blades free to trial and I've stuck with it.
