Default P & W Engine with 56 spark plugs !!!

I love trawling the internet for decent aviation info.
I found this video that shows an engine start up after a complete rebuild.
It's a Pratt & Whitney R-4360-20 that will be fitted into a WWII Corsair plane.
It's got 28 cylinders, 7 Magnetos and 56 spark plugs

Look out for the many exhaust pipes when the camera position changes.
Amazing technology !!

Yep, Vought fitted the biggest engine they could and had to use an inverted Gull wing to stop the prop smacking the ground

Bent winged ba$tard from Connecticut / Whistling death was it's nickname IIRC Picture is a Goodyear built plane as I think they had the blown canopy.

I'm sure I'll be able to shoehorn it into the Forester

That's beautiful.
Wouldn't want to be the one looking for a misfire though

Didn't realise how big it was until that guy walks over with a torch!
I fix photocopiers at Prat Whitney, they show me the engines and how one little part (looks like a brake disc) is worth more then an Astin Martin!

Very, very cool But check out the thick streaks of lead down the side of that Corsair from the exhaust

I've see a 14 cylinder Wright Dual Cyclone close up, and that was immense

This bad boy is effectively twice the size

They have this one at the Yeovilton museum. Under many layers of paint they found the original finish worn when in combat. Seeing a classic warbird quietly stood in front of you is like a pilgrimage for those of us who appreciate WW2 flying.

And I'd like to pin a medal on that guy in the video with the torch and the 'tash! It's like our dyno cell on acid and not dissimilar to when we had the Merlin engined Bentley in..
