NHS Direct
Anyone had anything to do with the above?
I've read some threads recently where the NHS have screwed up and got a bad press, but today they came up trumps for me!
Been away in the truck since Thursday, Friday night I got a little toothache, thought nothing about it and thought I could last until I got home tonight to get over to my own dentist .
How wrong was I !
Woke up at about 3.30 this morning in bloody agony, and found a massive abscess on the left side of my mouth, came from nowhere over night, I was also in a layby near Worcester heading for York.
I got to York at 10.45, and parked the truck as was now in that much pain that there was no way I was going any further without some help.
Called NHS direct, told them what the problem was, a rough location based on sat nav, and the fact that I was in a fully loaded artic so would have problems getting anywhere.
They called back at 1100, got me an appointment with a local dentist at 11.30, and had me back on the road , pain free, by 12.15 !
I thought this was damn good, and worth a mention

.......Not actually funded by NHS Direct but by each local health economy.
Here is our service in Cumbria.

Can't remember the cost per call / treatment but £316 rings a bell.

Nice one, very quick service by the looks of it.
Did you have the abscess drained or a tooth removed where the infection was?
I remember getting an abscess from a pushing rear wisdom tooth a couple years back. It got infected and was the most miserable week of my life. I was literally about to mumble on the phone to an emergency dentist when I felt it pop in my gob. Urgh, the worst taste ever but luckily the pain went and I got some drugs for it. All better now

Because I was In the wagon and no way of parking it in the centre of York , they even arranged a taxi to pick me up and drop me back at the wagon again after,
I thought that was absolutely awesome , considering it was a Sunday too
And the total cost, £17.50 !

Tooth out and the abscess with it, and a course of anti biotics, instant relief

That's got to be the bargain of the century bearing in mind the cost of dental treatment these days whether private or NHS.
