Default how to extend the power lead on a dvd player.

Just bought a new dvd player for the bedroom but the power lead is too short. Is there anything that i can use to make a neat extension. The normal plug and socket extension is too bulky, and a cut, solder and tape job isn't neat enough.

Ideally a slimline sort of plug and socket??

Take the cover off the player and connect a new cable inside :-)

Not much you can do without voiding the warranty - even if you just cut the plug off and connect a slim in-line connector they will still use this as an excuse to get out of paying if there is a problem.

Could you take it back and exchange it for one that has a separate power lead, then buy a longer lead?

It can be if you try. Or use tape to 'bulk up' the gap made by the missing section of flex - then use some shrink wrap as the final coating.

You can sometimes cause problems by opening up the device...

What's wrong with a normal plug and socket?

If you are so keen on neat and tidy put a new socket in the wall.
