Default Outdoor brands, which is best?

I know this depends on many factors, price points and uses but in general I am interested to know which makes people hold with the most regard.

I'm looking for a new jacket and have found a few from Berghaus, Helly Hansen, North Face and Oakley at all roughly the same price point, £100. I am leaning more towards Oakley at the moment as in the past I have found them to be of excellent quality for the money and suspect with the others you are paying 50% for the name and not much else but anyone with experience of them please share.

As long as it's gore-tex, and not sprayway or regatta.

I've got a pair of Berghaus walking boots I've had for years. God knows how many miles they've done. I've even worn them to work countless times and they're still in top condition! As a comparison, a typical pair of good quality work boots will last me 6 months max.

I'm not an expert and maybe there are better brands out there for the same or less money, but I'll certainly buy Berghaus again in the future after seeing the quality of these boots.

All those brands are good .. and as others have mentioned .. many other good ones too ... so IMO it depends on your personal preference to styling and jacket functions I would have thought .

Rab was nearly put on there but they were generally more expensive.
I've been put off by Nike due to their terrible build quality, although admittedly their ACG gear have been quite good.

for commercial grade then

North Face or Bergs
if you have Money then
Rab, Patagonia and Mountain Equipment.

Gortex or North Faces version Hydra Vent I think its called all good stuff, Gortex you will pay more for as its a name, and goes through a series of tests for seams etc, but more or less the same deal.

My brother has been a rock climber for 35 years, one of the worlds best at one point, so he used to get a lot of free stuff from berg and Patagonia, his network of friends involved guys that had done K2 and Everest etc, so I used to get bored to tears with stories about new gear.

Was good though to be able to go to the pub in a 2000 quid puffa jacket that more of less cooked me before I got there LOL

P.S 2000 quid back then approx. 600 to 900 now
