How stupid, going public then requesting everyone leave them alone?

The fat bloke is only 41 too. Looks well into his 50s.

Thing is IMHO what could anyone else do?
Winning that sort of money will never be kept in the quiet , there will always be someone, be it a past mate or family that will spill the beans.

Just imagine how many people would come out of the Wood work wanting some of your cash with god knows what sort of story.

I would try and keep it from the media, imagine how many people they might know from afar or even not at all who will try to extort money anyway they can now. The first thing i would do is get some protection for my children.

But how could you possibly keep a win like this secret?

They're normal working people, imagine one day having a Ford Focus and a 3 bed semi - what do you then do with your secret £148 million?

Good luck to them I say, yes I'm jealous but they seem like nice enough people.

Jealousy is a nasty thing, envy is normal. I am envious!!! And yes, they do seem like nice people. Good luck to them both.

There's a difference between courting publicity and people finding out by inference.

Easy to hide that much of a win.... wait 2-3 weeks and make out you've won £2-3mil on the normal lottery.

I wouldn't go public. I would admit to winning a large sum on the lottery but tell no-one how much, that way you remain in control.

That almost what I thought...some old couple near retirement. They were born in the same decade as me and that is scary.

I would not have gone public.

We attempted to become advisers for a big euro win couple. To be honest it was too much for us to deal with safely. Our insurance would have gone through the roof.

Anyway, we had to discuss things with the accountant and he wanted a 6 figure sum every year just for the introduction. Point being there were already being fleeced and they had only had it a month or two.

Best thing they could is leave the country. You would be hard pressed to keep all that money out of government hands if you stay in the UK.

If they don't go public the press will track them down anyway.

It's often easier to just get it over with.

I would imagine their front lawn is now full of tent dwellers begging, along with the bank managers, accountants, insurers and press

and PPI sellers

I'm sure when they claimed it the good people at Camelot did nothing but encourage them to go public so they (Camelot) got the publicity they wanted.

Well I kept my big win secret and it was fine. Had to tell the wife though but a slap up meal at Macdonalds calmed her down.

Most of the rest went on petrol

At least he can afford to lose a few pounds now.

Good luck to them. Not sure I'd be that bothered about the publicity to be honest.

It would be a nightmare. You'd basically have highly aggressive and persuasive salespeople on your case 24/7, all trying to get their hands on the filthy lucre.

Thing is you'd need some advice as you can't just put that money in your current account.

And their all sharks and chancers like car salesman.

Caribbean island, South Pacific island, 250 GTO, Veyron, Lear jet, Sunseeker yacht, 100 cases of 78 Petrus.

That would leave just enough for a tip for the driver of the taxi to the airport

You mean financial advisers? Thats the old guard mate. These days you pay for advice, not have some product or other sold to you - least thats how its been here for about 15 years.

I think part of the reason why we didn't get the euro win I mentioned earlier was because we were actually considering what to do with their money rather than the quickest way to line the pockets of those around them.

I'm fairly sure if you pay £20K a year tax in Gibraltar the rest is yours. Not what you would call a pretty place but cheap if you are loaded. My brother is there making a fortune from all the benefit scroungers in this country blowing their JSA on online Bingo.

I agree with Tony's point. So stupid to go public about the win, probably in an effort to impress I suppose. Their postbox will be permanently full of requests for cash from people who will have many reasons for being down on their luck, or so they say!

They seems nice, but too nice and naive. They don't realise some people will hate them for their luck and others will want to take advantage.

No publicity and I would want to dissapear with my family for a good few months for the dust to settle. Beach hut in New Zealand would do the job After that spend a a good few months carefully planning how to invest the money and of course openeing an account at the local Ferrari dealers

Scary money as you and your family are immediately a target for kidnapping, ransoms, etc. Would want to keep a long way from Somalia

No way I would go public, would rather not take it than have random begging letters and have to worry about the kids getting kidnapped by some East European drugs gang. I would react badly to people I havent spoken to in twenty years suddenly getting in touch, I am not that fussed about having that much money.

I think wins that big are ridiculous, ten million is all the money anyone could ever possibly need, one million is a nice amount for most people to make a good difference, 150 is obscene.

I think if I did win it and got thrust into the limelight I would do something spectacularly daft with it, like give it all to charity apart from a few quid.
