Question Warranty Question

When you buy something (like a kitchen appliance for eg), it always comes with a 'warranty card' whereby you have to complete your personal details and then post it back.

I've never filled one in, as I always keep the receipt of purchase.
What's the purpose of these, is it just a marketing ploy ?

think its so when you buy it , you dont necessarily open it. When you open it you send the warranty card in and thats when the warranty starts , not the date on the receipt.

and its a marketimg ploy

So you would recommend; wait a few years, then send the card in.

Its so they can harvest your details, swiftly to be followed by several years of an avalanche of junk mail, and then your details are sold on to a gazillion other marketing companies, who promptly do the same (+ phone & +email)

Cynical moi??

Question

ok, that answers that quesion nicely, ta.

So, next question, what about the box the appliance came in.
If the appliance breaks after one or two weeks after purchase, and the cardboard box has been recycled, can the retailer get stroppy ?

ie, best to keep box for a while, or recycle as soon as ?

Doubt they will care , why would you keep it anyway. And with the whole junkmail thing , when u go to claim your warrenty they will want your address anyway. Plus , does any of you not buy stuff online ? Your details will already be out there !
