Police wouldn't put any effort into tracing a stolen phone let alone one that has been lost.

My Wife stayed at a reputable hotel in London and had her phone stolen from the room, to be fair she had accidentally left it in the room and checked out.
We were able to track the numbers called on the phone online [O2] I emailed the numbers to the duty manager and it turned out to be the Romanian cleaner's family and friends back at home.
We asked for the phone to be returned, that's all.
We got the phone back plus a cheque for £30 to cover the calls, a complimentary nights stay incl Dinner and Breakfast.
The Cleaner was accompanied by her husband at the meeting with the hotel managers, apparently the husband broke down in tears and begged them not to dismiss his wife as she was the only wage earner.
As we had the phone back and had been compensated for the calls I said that "As long as the lesson has been learnt, don't sack her"
They sacked her and contacted all the agencies they use to tell them why.
Harsh, but fair.
As I get older, I get less tolerant of thieving scum. If it happened again I'd push for dismissal and deportation.

I agree nothings gonna come of it, but it annoys me that i have a number of which will prob be traceable, but due to effort needed nothing will happen.
i,ll write a leter to the headmaster stressing my views if nothing happens, and that letting this lie without following up, will just fuel the Pikey kid to rince and repeat the act.
