Does anyone on here work at RBS?? Just wondering how long its going to take for my wages to hit my bank They should be going in tomorrow, but its looking very doubtful, as 4 of my friends haven't been paid yet from last week who also bank with RBS...

im with RBS, had no problems with cash withdrawals, payments over ebay or wage deposit (on sunday).

one bloke even spent the weekend in prison because he could not pay his bail.

not had any problems getting cash out of the machines/switch etc, but I'm still waiting for a cheque to clear from over a week ago...

my balance is always wrong but i can withdraw and make online payments so not bothered yet, quite like natwest better than alot of the others.

did hear a story about a british girl in mexico or somewhere who apparently nearly had her life support turned off because they didnt recieve payment from the bank.

I wonder if RBS will pay every customer £38 for late payment, just as those customers would be charged for late payments TO the bank?

Our HR / Finance Dept has advised that the NHS wages due to be paid this thursday cannot be guaranteed....... that's an awful lot of wages and staff !

I bet the likes of these pay day loan companies are making a lot of money from this!

Also, it does worry me that you can have a system that is for a UK bank - but large parts of its IT network are not onshore.. from what I read earlier on the interweb.

Classic case of short term-ism and lack of long term investment, these banks are using core IT systems which are decades or more old

And the stark reality is that very few if any of the employees (certainly no fulltime employees) have a Scoobydoo how they work and how they interact with the rest of the IT/business to any credible depth

Executive remuneration is not aligned with delivering any long-term investment, especially in IT – most are gone in 2 years, who in their right mind would start a long term project to update these systems when they will be long gone – make do and mend and hope to fvck it does not go **** up on your watch,

Fun for many thIs weekend when they find they cant get cash out

Yes make notes/proof of charges you occurred and they will refund it.

I didn't get paid on time but I'm lucky enough to have funds that covered bills , which I can understand some don't .

I can imagine there will be a huge pile of claims for RBS to deal with, especially those who don't bank with RBS directly but haven't been paid (so have knock on charges from their bank for going overdrawn etc)

Maybe many other BS will go the same way

Never bothers me as never used a cash machine in my life and
Have plenty to cover DD for years but many rely on getting paid on time
To cover household bills etc
I predict this is going to get worse

Can't believe some of the stories on the radio; people being unable to feed their kids, families moving house in limbo, man stuck in jail unable to fund bail, people not going to work as no money for fuel.

Unfortunatly tony a lot of people live month by month and don't have the luxury of having thousands in their account.

We was only lucky as my wife got paid day before.

I'm lucky as we've got a few grand in a wedding pot that I can transfer to tie us over, but if it wasn't for that is be in the ****, sort of... Not without ******* about transferring money about from the other halfs accounts and juggling **** around. I don't have the luxury of missing a full months pay without ar$ing about though

Yeah meant it more figuratively I know some people only have a few quid in the bank left just before pay-day.

Must be a lot of pissed off customers at RBS, the reputational damage will be massive. Good job it's not owned by the taxpayer!

Don't mean to start an argument but having worked for various banks and building societies in I.T support roles on mainframes, midrange and distributed system, i.e. most of them, I'd like to point out that the above is complete nonsense, apparently paraphrasing The Register's explanation.

It's an unfortunate situation I agree but it's not like other large companies dont have outages. Power cuts, hose pipe bans, oil spills, gas plant explosions, tube strikes, train crashes, postal strikes, etc etc.

Frankly it's remarkable that there hasn't been a major I.T. Outage at a bank before now. I don't remember one in my 23 year financial I.T. Career so far.

I work for lloyds by the way, as a permie.

I think that RBS's decision to outsource it's expertise and then suffer an outage like this must be difficult for people to swallow. Losing all those jobs to India is bad enough, but then having a problem of this size caused by offshore staff................

It is entirely possible they would have suffered the same outage had it been done by UK based SMEs, of course, but where we have found things to be less than stellar is when these companies have to do anything that is not following a procedure (e.g. a CA7 upgrade going **** up......)

BTW, I also have 23 years IT in LBG, spooky........

My Natwest App works on my phone but just tried to log on to online banking via my laptop to pay some bills. Twice i tried but it came back and said i wasnt registered, ive now got to wait for a new code to be sent through the post......what the hell is that all about?
