Tents - recommend one
Me and the missus went camping recently, we bought a Decathlon Base Seconds 2.1 and found it both small in height and storage. The missus wants an 8 or 10 manner for next time. So maybe against my better judgement I am asking for reccomendations

There's lots of good tents to choose from it all comes down to your budget I suppose, but a 8-10 people tent for two is a bit overkill TBH

We have a '9-berth' tent, but in reality it sleeps 6. It has three seperate bedrooms and with the kids using one and me and the missus in the other we use the extra space as a living area which was great when camping in the recent storms - didn't have to sit outside on the picnic table for dinner

I've had my Vango pitched in Cornwall for the last week. It stood up to the heavy winds and rain. I'm not sure if we got the forcasted 70 mph gusts, but it was strong.

Hmmmm
Ok just for clarification, she loved the camping just not the tent. I hated the tent because of said height plus it leaked even though brand new and has been returned.
We dont want a caravan so please tent replies only and not trouser
Plus whilst to some it may seem like overkill personal preference is just that.
Can you now understand my comment about 'better judgement'????

Mawgan Porth. I went through Perranporth a couple of times on the way to St Agnes. If you spotted two huge black dogs which look like bears, that was probably us.

Goolge a Cabanon Biscaya
We had one just for me and the wife and had loadsa room.
Not a cheap tent, but top quality.
we sold ours in 2008 so don't know what the latest Cabanon tents are?

Bit of a stupid question.....but a serious one
How long does it take to put one Of those up?
Plus how the fooook do you fit everything into a car boot?
Keep thinking of buying one but are they worth the hassle

I bought a 4 man with dining area from decathalon a few years back for £100 still going strong and never leaked, got a small tear in a very bad storm, but been used more times than i can remember, it's about the size of the one above, think it's classed as a 6 man, big tents are where it's at if doing more than 1 night.
I find 2 bedrooms and living area plus awning is great, just get yourself a couple of wind breaks and jobs a good un.

Word of advice: When you buy one from a shop, make sure you get the right pole bag (as sometimes they are seperate to the canvas).
My mate boght a huge Vango thing and the salesman gave him the wrong pole kit. He didn't find out until he came to pitch it on holiday (as the tent is so huge he couldn't test pitch it in his garden beforehand ). He had to make do with a half-erect tent for the weekend .
Still not sure why you need such a huge tent (I mean a 10man tent for 2 people...seriously what are you putting in there? An air-bed the size of a bouncy castle? ). I mean the idea is to sleep in them not live in them. If you go to a camp site just use one that has good shower/changing facilities and have a Large 4-6 man tent with decent sized enclosed awning for shelter when eating alfresco.
My main conern with such a large tent is the boot space it takes up, and also the piching time...more poles, more hoops, more guy ropes, more canvas etc....which on a windy/rainy day with just two people to erect it could be fun
But as above, quality-wise, you can't go much wrong with anything Vango, Outwell are fairly good too.

Don't get a tent with yellow on it, we borrowed one for the F1 one year and as soon as it was out of the bag, it was swarmed with fruit flies and stayed like that for the weekend. Not much fun!

Got a Khyam Tourer 200, can't see it on their web site but this is the 4 man equivelent.
http://www.khyam.co.uk/detail.asp?p=...ourer 400 Plus
Quick erect tents are the best, takes less than 5 minutes to get it up + a bit more time to fully peg it out. Stood up to some pretty horrendous weather on the Gower a couple of summers back.
It's a big tent but only sleeps two. Ideal for me and the missus, we've only been away in it once since the baby arrived but he's got a little pop up travel cot / tent that goes inside it so it should do us for a year or two yet.
To the OP - you don't need an 8-10 man tent for two of you, not unless you're planning to have some sort of rave in it.

The other issue with these huuuuuuge tents is drying them out if you have to take them down when wet. I've put hooks in the garage rafters, so our 3 person (if you are good friends) or 2 person (plenty of space) Vango can hang upside and air/dry. I've no idea what you do with some of the hanger sized tents...

I'm away this weekend in it....Along with my my mates family with his with his mansion-sized Vango...which will probably be mouldy/smelly as it hasn't been touched since the last time he packed it away on the camp site (he hasn't the space to dry it anywhere).

The one in the link above(coffin dodger's) is about the same as mine, packs into a sport bag size.
+1 on the drying/airing as soon as you get it home, even if it didn't get wet as there will be moisture from condensation, but i never water proofed a tent in my 30yrs of camping, and they all did just fine.
I prefer to buy a slightly cheaper than £3/500, as all my tents last at least 6/7 years and i have never paid more than £100.00 i still have a 2/4man in the garage thats about 20yrs old and it cost about £30 from yoemans and was treated with no respect in my yoof.
My current one is about 8yrs old and still good never leaked and it goes to wales and yorkshire amongst other places.
And as before just get 2 good old fashion seaside wind brakes, all this fancy modern stuff is all about being/looking better than the joneses imo, it's camping not fine dining.

Vango's customer services are excellent. I emailed them at 21:30 last night and had a reply before 22:00. I didn't expect it to be read until today, let alone answered within half an hour.
A couple of links to Vango's lesser known outlets: For tent canopies, carpets and also refurbed outdoor gear- visit : http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/NEARLY-NEW-TENTS , Replacement poles / tent repairs- www.campingspares.co.uk,
