Default Camera needed

Casually looking for a decent yet cheap camera, any suggestions?

I've got a Olympus at the moment, and its been great, but now a 9 yr old digital camera that needs replacing.

It will be used for Holidays, scenic shots, family stuff, and obviously car events

Options please?

Rob

ps - My mate took these with cheapish Cannon, that leads me to believe quality can be had cheap enough https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...10-photos.html

Nikon 3000 or 3100 are massivly reduced...

Im just going to have a punt on the D5100, slightly more, but not as much as the new 3200, which i really want but cant justify

I'm in the same boat at the moment
Tempted by the 3100 at £330-£370'prices with a lens
3000 now under £299

The 5100 can be got for£520 -£579 with lens although when the new 5200 comes out the 5100 will get cheaper too

Lot of camera for the money

Tempted by the 3200 which as its just come out will be the one everyone wants and I guess is the future starter dslr for Nikon at £629-£649 can't imagine them getting much cheaper for a while and has the wifi connection facilty at £59 nd a apple app coming out in the autumn which will surely make it the best seller I would imagine

5100 is a good camera, but if you're going to spend then you might as well get the one you want.you know you'll be saying should of bought the 3200
Amazon have reduced the 3200 with the lens kit to £600.00 I was looking at it the other day always been more a canon fan,but i do like some of the nikons..

........any way, my Dad has just bought a Canon sx220 which seems to take a really good pic, is pocket size and has a 14x optical zoom. Bought for £141 with the £30 cash back deal that Canon have at the moment!

Thanks for all in input guys. I think £600 is beyond what I require to be honest, but I would sooner buy something once to last me a while than buy again soon as its outdated. When I get chance I'll research further into the options you've gave me!

Thanks guys
Rob

I was going to get the 3200, but early reviews and Nikon themselves state that its higher iso perofmace is not as good as the 5100. So another £300 is a lot to jump.

The 5100, has more scenes and setting modes to play with as well.

Came within signing on the dotted line this morning for a 5100, but somthing told me to hang on...

If the 5200 is imminent, i will see what the price reductions are...

Then again.........

As for Wifi, i believe you can get a wifi card that works with the other units

Just checked there called eyefi cards...4Gb is £40

the dongle for the new 3200 is £50

Cannon 450D/550D are good cameras and you can buy them for good money.

We have 450D and we are very happy

TZ 30 still overpriced though: give it 6 months to a year, it'll be around £180-£200.

Worth a punt then.

This is supposedly decent: http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Digital-Com...-Camera/794473

bot the Lumix and Sonys are top draw in quality, The sony has a very very good video mode with a great stabalizer, looks weird when you film more of less perfect steady.

Does GPS tagging panoramic, if you stretch the model you can go under water with it. rugged
