A piece of advice: DON'T complain to the NHS...
I did, when my back operation was cancelled.
Now I've just got my new appointment and guess what? SMACK ON the 18 weeks I'm not supposed to wait longer than!
Rang up today to ask the bint that does the appointments where I was on the list.
Bint: your appointment is for the 6th June.
Me: I've not heard anything.
Bint: Well I sent the letter out last week.
Me: It hasn't arrived.
Bint: Well it's been sent, it's for the 6th June. (Rings off).
If the op is successful, have a guess who I'd like to give a kick in the f@nny?

Having seen first hand Jeffs ailment and his ongoing back issues, I too would be annoyed at the receptionists lack of empathy.

Not to mention having to deal with generally rude/ignorant people on the phone all day and being paid the lower end of sod all, can understand why they would really be all the sympathetic... Generally speaking of course

LOL, so they like you to think. They are not on a fortune I grant you but the public sector benefits means that a "bad egg" can slip through the net very easily - although the all seem to be put on the phones

COB, I'm not for a minute saying he isn't suffering and needs treatment but what exactly is the problem? He has been given a date for the op and perhaps the letter was lost in the post, who knows?
What does he expect, the receptionist to come around his house and nosh him off?

Without knowing your personal situation i would find it hard to believe they would have put you on the 18week limit on purpose - they will not however want to breach this 18w limit as there are monetary implications.
Who did you complain to?

Same receptionist when I got bounced off the op list the day I was due to go in.....for a so-called emergency, that turned out to be a lass who had done the same as me TWO WEEKS before, but "couldn't stand the pain!".
See, if I've not had the letter, how do I know what to do, where to go, who to ring, what time to go, etc etc.?
STILL no letter today.
I WOULD have liked her to EITHER say, if I haven't received it by thursday, ring again, I'll send another, or give me a number to ring to find out what I NEED to know. Not just snap at me and hang up.
See......if I get it wrong, it will be MY fault........

Although I'm sure Jeff would appreciate said nosh from her (unless she was a bint).

I made a complaint when my wife was told her MRI scan was cancelled for what was a life saving operation. I was furious when I found out that though her scan was cancelled other patients from another health board area were given scans on the same day that she was booked in for as tghe other health boards apparently pay for this. Her consultant told us a scan was imperative before operaring and advised us to get it done privately or her op would be cancelled. This we duly did as it was so important. After her op I complained to the health board and got nowhere and even though we could easily afford the scan decided on a matter or principle to take it further. I contacted my MP, welsh assembly member and the Secretary of State for Health in Wales as well. The (Labour) health Sec basically told us tough ****, we dont give refunds in a really snotty 5 page letter whereas our MP and AM were disgusted at her treatment and took it to another level where we were eventually granted a refund as a gesture of goodwill.
So sometimes is does pay to complain.
