No, not a Gold Wheel loving Queen - BUT our beloved Queen!!

£20million Tax bill unpaid!!! by 'Special' arrangement with the most corrupt party on earth - the TORIES!!!!

Just in case the queen has logged on to here - your money has just deprived someone of their granny, grandad, mother or father - daughter, brother, son or sister ....................... BECAUSE the hospital couldnt fund their need - THANKS FOR NOTHING MAAAM

Dont want to start a row but I am as mad as hell that the richest woman in the country avoids the tax that would help the nation while she gets the best health care money can buy - long live the revolution!!!

Pete

I could be looking at redundancy - £60,000 tax bill!!!!

If My wife and I died - my daughter would face Inheritance Tax and would have to pay!!!

The Queen Mother dies - leaves around £70million and no-one pays a PENNY !!!!!!!!!!!

How about all those who have had to sell the family home to pay the tax bill????????????

I am SERIOUSLY p1ssed off that the Tories could agree such a thing and deprive the people of £20million of benefit!!

the no IHT rule was around when Diana died but charles decided not to use it because of the potential for bad press- it seems the queen has seen mugs queing for 24hrs to look at her mums coffin and decided that current opinion is so pro royal that she can get away with it.

The idea behind it is that since they no longer make any new money, their estate would be wittled away every time one of them died. Makes sense I think

It was worked out that the royal family costs us something like 50 million a year. In return, because of tourism etc they bring in something like 250 million a year into the economy, and therefore provide jobs for 1000's.

The biggest reason I'm in favour of the royal family is that all the armed forces and police report to them, and not the government.

The Govt have to ask the queens permission to use the army and can't just order them into battle.

Now it's unlikely the queen would refuse a request, BUT it's good to know that should a totalitarian goverment ever get into power(and with the low voting turnouts it's possible) then they could'nt just order the armed forces and police to go round up all the people who did'nt agree with thier policies.

I would much rather have the armed forces and police chain of command ending at a non political source than one where the millitary and ruling government are linked...

Theoretically the queen can also reject the results of an election and refuse to appoint the prime minister. Ain't gonna happen though. I'm against all forms of inheritance tax -- the money must have been taxed along the line somewhere (income tax, tax on savings, stamp duty) so why tax it again?

carl,

as most IHT is due because of the rise in house prices you will probably find that there is plenty of money that gets caught by IHT that never paid tax until that time (no CGT on primary residence)

also most ppl still do daft things like leave all their assets to their spouse on 1st death thus increasing the IHT on 2nd death- it's not called the voluntry tax for nothing!

Yes, but for people without extraordinarily large incomes they will have paid a mortgage over 25 years on their primary residence. Aside from the fact this costs at least an integer multiple of the original purchase price, there's no MIRAS any more so the payments are made with taxed income.

If the house is sold to buy another house, then there will be stamp duty on the new one.

If the house is sold to buy anything else, there will be VAT on it.

jjones - Have you just been watching Animal Farm on C4?

I'm with Neil on this one. The Royals bring far more into this county than they take.

Anyway, why is everyone blaming the royals for this? It's the last tory gvmt that introduced it
