Default One for the wine snobs

I've just had a glass of red wine thrust in to my hand. It's a light bodied, fruity bouquet. It's not hugely strong, only 8%, but it is surprisingly nice.

And it's English.

If you want to try it, or just see where it came from, you may be pleasently surprised.

There are actually one or two nice wines from there. But you have to try a few to find the good ones.

And they still don't compare to a decent red, such as a gran reserva rjoca, for example.

I prefer to save the Gran Reserva until winter. I find them very warming, especially Faustino No.1

I've tried that but preferred the 4 or 5.

Marques de caceres Rioja is a favourite, but I've now found this little family run French vintners - brilliant wines from France that are from mostly micro vineyards and rarely available here.

Favourite at the moment is a cheeky Domaine Boudau Rivesaltes - almost a desert wine but also very easy drinking of an evening...

There's an English vineyard a few miles from me but never tried any of the produce - http://eglantinevineyard.co.uk/default.aspx

Just down the road! I didn't realise Nott's had a vinyard.

I've recently been trying various Pinot Noir, I've got an Aldi recommended Pinot Noir to try too

13% plus for me!

Chateauneuf du Pape tonight.

Aldi actually great for beer prices! Some good well known real ales for about £1.20 a bottle as opposed to about £2 in Sainsburys

No wine tonight.

A colleague gave me a bottle of this as a gift a few weeks back http://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies...batch-whiskey/

will sample some of this, this evening.

Why is it when you read the blurb on the back of the bottle, it always says it has a hint of strawberry in the taste?

I love cheese. And like wine.

But couldn't think of anything more crushingly dull than a 'polite' social gathering for it.

Just got back from Barbados where I sampled some rum which is $60 Barbados (£20) a shot.

Excellent stuff.
