Decanter petrol next to a lit Gas cooker
This just sum's up the thick people on our roads.
So this woman decides to de-canter petrol from one canister to another next to her lit gas cooker, while the family are eating their evening meal
I mean FFS, what the **** was she thinking

Nearly as bad as me welding near to a drained petrol tank with a hole in the top
Yup..spark went down the hole for the (removed) fuel sender, igniting the vapour and it went boom in quite an impressive way.
It was a good thing though as it pressure tested the fuel tank and showed that the metal was about as thick as tracing paper in some parts

No, just me and my mate (the other AL, like me but not me) was the otherside of the chassis cutting metal with the angle grinder.
Took us a while to work out where the bang came from, then noticed the once rectangular fuel tank was now almost spherical.
Lesson learnt on petrol fumes...equally if not more dangerous than the fuel itself.

Sympathy?
Pouring petrol out of a can into a jug, next to a gas cooker!
Sorry mate but no sympathy here, she should be banned from going anywhere near petrol, or any other flammable liquid

It's no laughing matter as she is seriously injured.
I agree it is her fault to some extent, however the Gov should have been more careful about advising people to handle this dangerous liquid in ways many are not normally used to.

Nothing wrong with my attitude mate.
Doesn't make any difference if the government or her mate told her to store petrol at home.
There are some things that you just don't do, and what she did was one of them.
Everybody knows the dangers of petrol, if she has bought it herself she has carried it in an approved can with warnings written on it, she got it from a garage with warnings written all over the pump, then she opened it next to a source of ignition.
WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF HER FAMILY SAT AT THE TABLE, SHE COULD HAVE KILLED THEM ALL
Luckily for them she injured herself, and not them.
I do have plenty of sympathy for people however they are injured, just none for stupid people who could have killed others

What isn't sensible however, is the general public who then start panic buying fuel (even though no strike has been announce) and start causing a fuel shortage, which in turn makes more people panic buy and the situation just gets worse.
The woman who got burnt? It was stupid thing to do given that, a) It was in the house, and. b) There was a naked flame near by.
She's probably a generally sensible person who got caught up in the hysteria of panic buying, and just switched her brain off when pouring the fuel out. Not different to the many DIY incidents that get many people a stay in Hospital. Incidents that many on here (including me) would say were fecking stupid.
A loss of concentration has cost her dearly.
These people who are panic buying fuel are probably the same idiots who stock up on Bread over Christmas (shoving 6+ loafs in their trolley) just because the shops are closed for 1 day.

It is the government's fault absolutely. Totally wankish advice to panic buy fuel and "keep topped up" when there is no strike. People are like sheep - try parking away from them in a car park! I don't blame this woman for being ignorant about petrochemicals but the government is totally to blame for stoking panic trying to create backlash against unions. Has quite literally blown up in their face.

Shocking accident and I hope she recovers from her injuries...
Maybe the HMGov could consider putting out safety messages about storing and handling petrol at the same time they issue recommendations about doing the same.... as a kid I recall them doing this more often, it would then give people the benefit of understanding the dangers and consequences if they decide to follow the advice.
Some real class "A" SNet comments on this thread!
