I'm lucky enough to have one of these at home which is also calibrated every 6 months. Totally OTT for tyres but I use it at work most of the time.

Any gauge can only be guaranteed accurate on the day of calibration. Knocks, drops, condensation etc can and will affect accuracy.
Some of the gauges we use cost around £1k and you can have 2 side by side on the same line and they will give different results.

The last test I saw in Auto Express or somewhere ( it may have been a motorcycle rag) had this type as pretty good from an accuracy viewpoint. It doesn't need any batteries either!
It's not necessarily pin-point 'accuracy' you need, the gauge also has to be 'precise'. That is, give the same reading at the same pressure every time. Not usually something you need to worry about too much EXCEPT if you keep swapping gauges every time you check your pressures. Each gauge will read something different just because they are different gauges. Best idea is to get a cheap gauge like this, check it for accuracy against a known good gauge then always use the same one.
And don't be fooled by gauges with digital readouts, assuming they're more 'accurate'. All that's happening is that they can give you a wrong answer to more decimal places ....
