Lloyds always been good with me for the last 25 years.
Don't know where in the world the call centre is but I always speak to someone who has a grasp of the English language. ( and actually sound more Englsh than I do )

I've been with Co-op (still am), Barclays (still am), Britannia and a couple abroad.
Britannia were unbelievable when you wanted money out, notice needed, cost to transfer
The Co-op charged me £30 a month if my money went in a day late and I went into my overdraft, no idea why, I got the money back once when I went in to complain but after a few times I gave up
Without a doubt the best service I have had for everything bank related - loans, overdraft and esp online banking is Barclays
Many years ago I had money being taken out of my account, old days when you posted your details to set up direct debits, anyway I went into barclays and they gave me the money back there and then prior to doing some investigating.
So, Barclays and been with them 25 years or so without a single issue.

Halifax for me, ultimate reward account offering home emergency cover is fantastic.
They have changed my house locks and had a plumber come out for a leaking stop ****.
Not cost me a penny other than the £15 a month.
Phone insurance and breakdown cover is included also.
Used HSBC in the past. Awful bank

RBS, never had any problems with them, even with all of the problems over the last few years. Quite willing to lend me money. Can be a little buggy with mortgage renewals, keep ringing up monthly. Have complained and it has calmed down.
No other issues though, online banking fine, they ring me up when too much money is being transferred (rang me abroad too, while I was spending). Got no reason to leave them, though getting to a branch is a pain.

You and a few others. I have been chuckling at HSBC new advert about viewing all small business's as future big business's. Hogwash. They have closed loads of small companies, through their lack of help and interest. Advert is a bit hypocritical. I'm in the process of moving from HSBC to Coop.

In the league tables of customer service the two BEST large performers are Nationwide and Lloyds TSB Group.
The latter is a miracle given their scale and the amount of change they have been through in the past three years with bank integration.
So if you are leaving Nationwide tread very carefully as they are often rated the best bank in the UK in customer service league tables.
One bank you might want to consider if service is paramount is First Direct.

Co-op gets my vote.
Avoid Halifax like the plague. Took them months to clear a cheque for 10s of 1000s € in to my account, claiming they didn't have it even though they issued me a photocopy when they accepted it.
