Vodafone contract help??
Hi All, got myself my first contract after years of being on pay as you go. Got the phone (iphone4s) 2 weeks ago on a £36 per month deal, and was expecting a bill at the end of the month. checked my bank account this morning, and they have taken £45 out without notice? Went on to Vodafone live chat, and 'Muresh' said it was line rental that I have to pay for in advance - is this right?? It maybe in some small print somewhere, but to be honest I've not had any paperwork from vodafone as yet, just a letter from phones4u saying welcome etc.. Anyone has similar??

When i renewed my contract (through a 3rd party as it worked out cheaper) they said i would need to pay £45 as i was ending my contract early even though i'd had my phone 24 months. They ended up taking £75 out my account and i'm still fighting to get a refund.

Sorry if this is too late for you, but the cheapest way to have an iphone is to buy one outright, and then use a cheap pay as you go sim such as giffgaff for £10/month. Unlimited texts, unlimited internet and all that jazz, with no contract.

Might have a look at that myself.

Going to seriously consider that come renewal time myself, will have to see how the costs work out.

thats called a pro-rata amount and covers your first months line rental and the extra days from the date you took the contract out until your normal billing date.eg your bill date is say 15th every month but you took contract out on 1st so first month bill would be line rental from 1st to 14th then normal monthly amount.all networks do it.

OP is paying 24 months at £36/month, so £864 for the 2 years. I assume the phone is free.
Alternative is buy the sim free phone from Apple for £499, then 24 months at £10/month. Total cost for 2 years is £739 (although you're not actually tied in to a 24 month contract).
moneysavingexpert.com has all the details and comparisons. If you can stomach the upfront cost it seems to be the way to go.

My next upgrade will be in September though and will be to the iPhone 5 so depends on what price apple set for the next iPhone against what networks offer, the idea is good in theory though, assuming the next phone and contracts stack the same way which I am sure they will do.
