Shark,

Thanks again for some more piccies. With regards to my proposal i'm 99.999999999% certain of a YES.

jlanng,

I have read lots of info. about the quality Scuba. Might just give it a go as i've always snorkeled and loved that.

Cheers again guys, i'm getting all excited and still have 11 weeks to wait.

My girlfriend & I are off to Phuket in July for 2 weeks of luxury. Can't wait as i failed to get a holiday last year owing to the constraints of my business so am really ready for a break.

We've gone all out and booked at the Evason Hotel & Spa which offers 5* Delux accomodation.

Anyone been to Phuket? What should we be doing and more importantly avoiding. Thanks for any help.

Crypt,

Thanks for the visual stimulation mate. Can't wait especially when it's pi55ing it down outside here at home. Was it Phi Phi Island where the "Beach" was filmed. The place i'm staying (Evason) has is own private island called "Bon" with ferry boat to and fro.

I am also going to propose to my girlfriend over there so Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh she might hear.

Yup it's the tour of Phi Phi Island that takes you past the beach and surounding islands i think. Make sure you visit monkey island as this imho is the best beach i have ever seen. The sand is like white warm mud it's soo . I hope she says yes dude, it truley is a incredable part of the world i couldnt put it into words mate, breathtaking...

Just try and avoid the market sellers as after a bit they do your head in!! Walk on the other side of the road!!

I hope you have a time mate, e mail me or post upon your return and tell us what you thought.

Went last year - amazing place, very picturesque. A little more 'touristy' and expensive than other areas of Thailand (Chang Mai is my favourite city)

Its one of the best places in the world to learn to SCUBA dive. I did my full PADI qualification in 5 days. I'd recommend Sea Bees diving school... tell Helen I sent you!

Thread hijack (sort of) - the wife and I hope to go to Thailand in Dec/Jan for 3 weeks over Christmas as a belated honeymoon. All tips welcome! We will probably DIY rather than buying a package. Is Thai Airways still as good as it was?

PADI - is this possible/recommended in 5 days for those who've never dived before? Strikes me as something not to miss if I have the chance!

PADI - yes, very doable in 5 days provided you're already comfortable in the water (i.e. if you can do 10 laps or so of a pool)

Thai airways are still excellent. Only used them for domestic flights, but no problems at all

I stayed in Ko Phi Phi, just off Phuket by boat - definitely recommend this neck of the world for a break - friendly, cheap and beautiful. Diving is a must if you have the time... just avoid the honeyed locusts for sale on every street corner : )
