Pregnancy through rape is a "gift from God"
Rick Santorum would encourage one of his daughters to see a pregnancy created through rape as "a gift of human life" and urge her to not consider an abortion, the socially ultra-conservative Republican presidential candidate has explained.

I doubt his daughters will be voting for him then...

He is to the Americans......... and he is ALWAYS on their side
Once read a book in which the author reckoned that he used to watch a lot of American films as a kid at Saturday matinees.
Until his early teens he thought the Americans had an elite regiment who always came to the rescue, as they always seemed to call on the "Almardy Guard"

"I believe and I think that the right approach is to accept this horribly created, in the sense of rape, but nevertheless, in a very broken way, a gift of human life, and accept what God is giving to you. As you know, in lots of different aspects of our life we have horrible things happening. I can't think of anything more horrible, but nevertheless we have to make the best out of a bad situation. And that is making the best of a bad situation."
I think it is easier to use the full quote - gives a degree of context that is often lacking in debate these days.
To be honest, I don't understand how he can say this and then support the death penalty.
I mean does he believe in the sanctity of life or not?
Perhaps he is one of those chaps who likes to read his bible, picking and choosing to suit his own taste.
A not very rare breed alas.

yes the "context" point is a fair one
but I dont think it changes things in this case
and the definition of madness, was once described as "the ability to hold two contradictory thoughts/positions in ones head and see no contradiction"
I think he is mad/insane

Another way to look at it is that it is not the fault of the conceived child which is the result of the rape. The child has a life and doubtless his attitude is that a life is very important and is it fair to end it? The girl's father might well ask everyone how they might feel personally if they had been conceived in such a way but would they have preferred to get their own chance of life?
Anyway that is just showing the other side of the coin as Devil's Advocate!
In the end it is down to the girl and she has to make the decision on her own account.

It would be very difficult for her to not think of the rape everytime she looked at her child.
Would she feel resentment? Would the child actually be in danger?
Her choice and her choice alone.

i have to say that the older I get, the less comfortable I am with abortion
but in a daughter/rape situation, God would no more come into the conversation than the talking gnomes at the end of my garden.
