Anyone else use an anti SAD light?

I would be interested in this as well.
I was listening to the Naked Scientist podcast this morning and they were talking about how most of us will be deficient in vitamin D at this time of year, which they think can bring on some pretty terrible health conditions.

I'd be intested to know; As I'm condering replacing half of the flourescent tubes in our office for these:
http://www.lamps2udirect.com/pages/f...light-Tube/374
I replaced all the orignal "cool white" tubes about a year back as they were nearly ten years old and well past their half-life (time it takes to get to half brightness), but the trade counter only had normal white tubes. Still, they way brighter than the old worn-out tubes, but now after a year of use it doesn't seem as bright and I wondering if the colour temperature of the tubes is having an effect on the "karma" in the office, bearing in mind the only natural light is through two small windows with slatted blinds.
Edit; I don't think it can help with vitamin D3 production though as all flourescent tubes have UVA and UVB filters...unless they are sunbed tubes, growth/aquarium lights or Ultra Violet lamps....I was also looking into this as the one member of staff in our office has Osteoporsis. But I don't think H&S would approve of me fitting sunbed tubes in the light fittigs

my mother r.i.p had one, in my ignorant youth i just thought it was a bit of daft nonsense tbh.
and probably now im of similar thought if im honest.
altho im sure she felt some benefit from it, so if it floats your boat , then why not. even placebo effect of these types of things can have an enormous effect if people let them - and certainley no harm done.

You don't sit and stare into it, they tell you NOT to do that...and who could for two hours daily?
Mine is sat on the side of my computer table here as I type, and has been on since around 11am.
IF they gave out mahoosive quantities of UV, then people would get suntan from them. You don't.
I know this one gives a small amount, since my lad's diabolo string was MILDLY fluorescing last night under the light. Just enough to see. Placed under a uv light it goes daft.

All you need is me for a couple of hours daily
But in all seriousness these lights do seem to work and have an impact on those what use them for postive outcomes.
Quick question: Have you personally noticed how any mood your in changes when you hold or play with Isaac at mine or your house? Me and Nat noticed yesterday. Either it helps for a little bit or you're a bloody good liar and putting a face on. I remember even seeing a smile or two yesterday mate

Andy: yes kids are a natural depression lifter, apparently.
WHEN they are behaving.
Otherwise, it's DEFINITELY the exact opposite!
I also have been bought "The Depression Cure", by Dr. Steven Ilardi, which I am trying to read. Heavy going.
Also doing some Pure Maths as revision as something light to read compared .
NOT a joke, btw

We have one, well I think it's the same thing.
I used to find with winter - the dark mornings and dark evenings was a nightmare getting to and waking up. When I finally woke up I would feel rubbish....
With this light it comes on half an hour before I want to wake up very faintly and then brighter and finnaly to a brightness we set - normally MAX hot sunny day mode..
I have to say it does make waking up easier. and worth the £46.00

I tried anti SAD light a long time ago when winter used to get me down quite badly. I didn't find it as effective TBH. It could be because my need for sunlight and warmth is comparitively much higher due to me coming from one of the sunniest and the hottest parts of the world. My solution was to change all the light bulbs around the house to 100W, keep them on as long as possible, keep heating on full blast most times, and go on the exercise bike more often. Three of them in combination worked for me. Anyhow, you should give the anti SAD light a try IMO.
Now that^ is the advice of the season! FPMSL!
