Given the amount of movement when the ship hit it is hard to believe that the passengers were led to believe this was merely a power cut!!
Clearly a heavy collision for a ship of that size to be rocked so much.

The first one isn't the Costa Concordia - it's the Pacific Sun, in heavy seas off the coast of New Zealand in July 2008.

FFS. I think that makes it worse. WTF is a ferry doing without the tables bolted down? Floating hotels fine, but a Ferry!?!?!
I wouldn't want to be on that when the Bay of Biscay is choppy.
The only cruise ship I ever went on was a proper Trans-Atlantic/Pacific jobby, so eveything big (tables etc) was bolted down.
