Default Posh Parker or Posh Waterman? Any Pen connoisseurs out there?

I was given a Cross ballpoint/pencil set for Christmas that broke so I am able to replace it for something else and have decided to get one nice ballpoint rather than a set. The options are the Parker Duofold or Waterman Carene.

Anyone any experience with either? Which is the better pen? They are the same price although the Parker has been more heavily discounted.

Parker Duofold

Waterman Carene

A Parker will always be a Parker, same goes for a Waterman really...

and for that reason I'd spend a bit more and get a Mont Blanc.

If I was spending more I wouldnt be getting a Mont Blanc.

Not really understanding a Parkers a Parker etc to be honest as there is a big difference between say a jotter and the Duofold. They are being sold for £70 on the WHSmith website which is a long way from Mont Blanc prices and I am not interested in spending significantly more really.

Im stuck with WHSmiths as that is where I need to get the replacement. These are the only two options but I agree the Faber Castell look nice and they are the manufacturers for some of the Porsche design gear which is then sold for a lot more.

Thanks...any um, useful codes to put in at checkout??

I thought that the Waterman was slightly more upmarket but I knew that the Duofold was the top model whereas the Carene is somewhere in the middle of the Waterman range so thought it would be evenly matched.

They all are!

Mind you,for some reason Mont Blanc caps always remind me of that 70's classic 'ice magic'

In a way they are yes but in the same way an Audi is a glorified Skoda but there are very good reasons why people buy Audis. They look nice, feel nice and you enjoy using something that feels special.

I've got a brand new mblanc, never used. Needs a new roller ball as its dried out.
I never realised how much they are until I did a quick google.

Think it's going to go on eBay !

Mother has two MB pens. One was a gift and one was left in her partners restaurant and never claimed.

Being left handed and the way I write I have to use certain pens else I'll smudge the letters.

Not a fan of fountain pens to be honest and no doubt I will lose it. I'm not sure what model it is I may dig it out tonight and post a pic as all I can remember is it's a steel one.

I have a Cross fountain pen and it's much better than a colleague's mont blanc equivalent.

Surely any ballpoint pen writes only as well as its refill will allow!

won't the refills be manufacturer specific though? eg; a mont blanc refill for a mont blanc pen?

Never knew there was so much to pens......

My current tool is a plastic ballpoint. It's blue and says barclays on it. It was free. Although free may seem good, it becomes obvious that i write like a 5 year old with it.

Yes they probably are, but I wonder how much different in actual quality to other refills.

Is your keyboard also blue with Barclays on it?

A good fountain pen will improve your writing.
