Default New watch arrived, but...

It wasn't the one shown on the website. It has the older style logo on (not a massive deal but still annoying) and it has a flat battery, probably because it's been sat in a warehouse for 2 years.

However, it was cheap!

So, what to do. I can send it back for a full refund or keep it and pay for a new battery to be fitted (at my expense).

Any other options? Can I expect them to either replace it with the one I ordered or a similar watch or at the very least get them to pay for a battery/fitting?

Just spoken to them, they don't have the new model (logo) so that's not an option and get this, if I send it back to them for a new battery it will be free but takes 6-8 weeks!!!

If I get a battery fitted myself, it voids the warranty lol.

Great... decision made.

LOL depends how "cheap" the watch is and how reputable the "dealer" is in terms of decisions. If its a pretty expensive watch Id return it just for the warranty, anything under £100 just get a battery fitted on the cheap from the local Jeweller.

Contact them and see what they're prepared to offer. You have an unconditional right to full refund up to 7 days after purchase under EU distance-selling rules, as a last resort.

They have offered a full refund, an extra £8 off or send it back for a new battery, 6-8 weeks.

It cost £160 but think I'll be sending it back.

Surfdome, they only sell online. I'd probably keep it if I could get a new battery fitted quicker than 6-8 weeks and keep the warranty. That's just ridiculous!

A good jeweller would be able to replace a battery without the manufacturer knowing, thus keeping the warranty.

Depends on the watch and if you want to maintain the water tightness.
The last change on my Tissot was around £30 from memory, the alternative was about £6 which meant no more water proofing.

Just a point -- if the battery has been flat for a good time, it is possible that there might be 'some' corrision of the battery area.....

out of curiosity -- what make of watch ??

As above I've had battery changed and waterproofed on wife's seiko for about 12 at a reputable place it's not expensive to do. Op probably made right. Voice though.
How much was the saving for it to be cheap?

Nixon 51-30 Tide PU. It's more of a fashion watch but the old Nixon logo is a bit dated now.

I paid £160 for it delivered and it's on the Nixon website for £290 but with the new logo...

Similar quote for my Tag, cost me £150 about 5 years back. Cost me £650 11 years ago so its paid for itself cause I used to spend about £100 every year on an average watch but the Tag has lasted nicely.

Well, I've had second thoughts, I'm off into town later to see a guy who stocks a massive range of Nixon watches.

I bought my other 51-30 there and hopefully he is able to replace the battery without much fuss.

I figured £160 for a £300 watch is worth a bit of extra hassle.

Full refund.

Who knows, it might not be a flat battery and a fault with the movement causing excessive drain etc.

What's this about pressure testing upto 300m?

Even the Nixon dealer couldn't change the battery and said it's £35 and goes to a company that specialises in Nixon repairs.

So here's the replacement...

And guess what, at 5 o'clock on the inside of the glass is a large cloudy stain!

Nixon are seriously testing my patience!

My wife has bought me 2 Nixon watches over the years, First one was a digital thing that also spoke the time, battery lasted no more than 3 weeks in it, the replacement was no better. The second watch she bought me, the minute hand wedged itself into the hour hand.
They make some lovely looking watches but i would never have another one.

I'm seriously thinking the same. I certainly won't be recommending them to anyone else and won't buy another after this one.

My other 51-30 had to go back after noticing a spec of dirt on the face a few days after buying it.

Their quality control is shocking to say the least. My very first Nixon had the same battery problems as you described. I'm on my 4th now and they've all had issues but no more!

If it anything like my Seamaster (probably not ).......a rubber o-ring on the backplate.

That's it.

Disturb it and they can't guarantee its water-tightness. Therefore testing/replacement blah blah.
