According to my mum as a very small child I shunned dolls and teddies and used to take all my toy cars to my cot at night!

The only explanation I have found for this strange behaviour was a photo of my pregnant mum at Brands Hatch shortly before I was born, I must have been influenced from within the womb

I was given a toy car on day one apparently and have never been interested in anything else as much until I discovered girls...

I used to start watching a film and say "Dad does this film have a car chase in it?" if the answer was no then I would go and play with my toy cars..

I used to count down to when I could take my driving test and remember being excited because there was only 10years to go!

Sad now I look back... strange thing is though no one else in the family before me or after me has the same interest. Although my 18month daughter is into bikes, I ride off on my bike and she stands there shouting "Ike Ike Ike" and she shouts "Car" as one drives past followed by "More" I am sure she thinks we put the cars on the road for her to see...

lol...all this sounds familiar...

Apparently I had a little pink panter suitcase that I would fill with toy cars and carry around with me...this was fine until we went to see my godfather in bermuda and I set off the airport detectors as all they could see was lots of cogs and wheels in this little girls suitcase. 2yrs old at the time Mum loves recounting that story

Also had a HUGE (I was little!) black transporter that I put all my cars on and drove around the lounge...great Still have it in the loft

For my 18th I got a trip around brands in a touring BMW...

Think I'm addicted and it's hopeless...

I can remember when first given pocket money working out how long it would take me to save up to buy an XJS. Sods kept putting the price up!

tastes have changed a little as i grew but I think I was born in a garage.

Also is it normal to like the smell of petrol and oil? most people think its a bit wierd but I cant help it.

My first toys were:

Lego.
Toy cars.
Transformers
Technic Lego.
Meccano

I did admittedly sneak in a few My Little Pony's but that is only cos I was mad on horses too

As my mum used to rally, I used to go to all the rallies with her. If she wasn't rallying, she was with the horses, and, I would be there too

I had a great childhood

My late gran used to live next to a Ferrari garage(then it became a vw and now it's some jap garage).
Anyway, all through my childhood, whenever the family went to see my gran, I was next door oggling all the ferrari's. garage owner was a very nice chap so I got to sit in them and was taken for a ride once. I'm not so hot on ferraris (although wouldn't say no!) these days but it taught me that not all cars are a to b machines.

I'm a late bloomer as i was brought up in a biking family with motorbikes everywhere including the sitting room, i got on a me first bike at 4 years old but as to cars.... not until i started to drive really. I liked the idea of Ferrari's and other exotica, but my real passion started when i realised not all cars where those slow things that got in the way of ya bike !!

in short about two years ago and the urge for more power, grip , noise is growing by the day, does this feeling ever calm down as on a bike well a big 1000cc sports jobby i was used to never wanting for anything if anything less power ???

Mum never fails to recount the story of me standing in the window of a childrens clothes shop when I was about two and a half shouting out the makes and models of cars as they went past the window

Also, I apparently wouldn't either go to the loo or come out of the house when they wanted to leave unless my toy cars were all parked "properly" No change there then

I used to spend hours sticking large sheets of paper together and drawing whole towns on them with loads of roads for all my toy cars. I used to draw houses, pubs, shops, factories, garages etc. I'd have the 'posh' side of town and the 'not so posh ' side of town and park all my cars accordingly I used to draw all the correct markings in the road including yellow lines etc.

Sometimes at night all the hooligans used to come out in their Mustangs (I had two!) and other souped up Hotwheels (remember the purple Minis?) and have road races which always resulted in a multiple pile up in the High St just so I could bring my ambulance, fire engine and police car to the scene, my tow truck then used to tow the wrecked cars to the garage

My younger sister used to come and play with her cars too in 'my' towns but she used to annoy me 'cos she wouldn't drive properly on the left side of the road and used to drive over the edges too, she even parked on double yellows

We would spend hours and hours playing with our cars on my homemade roads then one day someone invented 'Roadmaker' and all my dreams came true, it was ready made bits of cardboard road that you clipped together - fantastic

I remember counting the years to my 17th birthday so that I could learn to drive, then when I was eventually old enough to send off for my provisional licence there were terrible problems in the DVLC which resulted in me having to wait 6 six weeks after my 17th before my licence came through, it was hell! I'd already bought my first car - a Ford Anglia - when I was 16 and was raring to get behind the wheel.

When I was little I used to tell everyone that I was going to be a racing driver, then it changed to a rally driver, I never did either much to my regret.

When I was 8 I designed my own range of cars called SJM Cars (my initials). I had everything from the small runaround to the high performance sports car (my favourite!) in the range I even listed all the spec and colours available

Looking back I can see I was doomed to the life of a petrolhead

There's some great stories here, (especially Jen and her car case!) keep 'em coming

I remember I would never go out unless I had a car in my hand..
and the super market was ace as the floor was smooth and lots of space to run the car on and the checkout conveyor belt was ace..
you could hold the car and watch the wheels go around

Shame really that at School we used to crash cars into each other until one of them fell apart.. lost more of my cars doing that

Still got some in the loft though... some day they might be worth something.

I remember a having a bright yellow Matchbox plastic racing track which had 2 lanes, and even a loop the loop.

The general idea was that you attached the twin tracks (via a special clamp) to the dining room table. There were barriers at the top of the trap. Place matchbox cars behind barriers, pull the miniature handle down and off the cars would go. The idea was that the cars would gain enough speed between the top of the dining table and the dining room floor to stay on track at the loop. IIRC they always fell off! I think that some of the offending cars are still in the loft at my parents house to this day.

I also remember a tv series in about 1983 (but haven't got a clue what it was called) about 2 women who won some money on the pools and went out and bought an RS2000 with the idea of winning the RAC. That programme was what got me interested in rallying (but I've never won the pools - so spectating only I'm afraid).

I never had the £££ before that to be seriously interested in cars before that it was alcohol, Motorcycles and more alcohol

When I was 5 I had to spend two weeks in hospital having lots of tests done. I was in the kids ward and they had a big playroom attached to the ward and in this big playroom was a pedal car It was an American Police car and I think (but I'll have to check with my mum) that I had one the same at home, anyway no other kid on the ward got a look in at that pedal car for the whole two weeks I was there When mum and dad came to pick me up I was still peddling around in it

I used to pedal my brother around in a police pedal car of all things

My parents despaired cos I used to take my brother's toy cars off him yo play with them I remember counting up over 100 ickle ones and 50 odd larger scale models

When my brother was old enough we used to have car tournaments

My art sketch pad had lots of sketches of various cars too. In fact my art GCSE final painting was based on a Jaguar LOL

At the age of 15 I was driving around our field in my mm's 4X4, I was a rally nutcase, I discovered the scoob in 1994. Passed my driving test at the age of 17, first time with no minor faults and it all went downhill from there

I had loads off toy cars when i was younger, then lost interest in cars and I wasn't really interested at all until about 2 years ago, but i always wanted a subaru, since i learnt about the impreza. How things have changed though, within a year of passing my test i bought an impreza turbo wagon, and i now want to start rallying And in a few years i want an sti type R

Guess the real passion kicked in at around 16 when I started getting into cars. Went on a BTEC National in Computer Studies and the chaps on there were into cars and it seeped through into me, so I got into the whole car thing from then on. Though I did use to watch GP's as a kiddie (mum used to go to the GP when it was at brands hatch).

From college onwards i was as car mad as I am now. And I'm even worse since I got the scooby.
