It underestimated our tax burden by a factor of three - so I am not sure how they are calculating it.

I think we are a positive contributor.

That calculator doesn't include the extortionate amount of tax I pay having a 243g/km company, it also doesn't include the amount of stealth taxes we pay too

Errrr, it doesn't do anything with the salary you enter, it just puts you in one of its 'deciles' - dreadful journalism (and I'm grumpy cos I already know I pay way more in tax than I'll ever get out!).

I did it again - I had clearly misread what it was doing - I didn't realise some of the numbers were indicative - not your calculated number

When I did it properly it overestimated our tax by around 15%

I made the same mistake - you need to click on the bit where it tells you how it is calculated.

The loss is the average of the tenth decile.

You need to click on how it is calculated to get your personal numbers.

I think I'm being really stupid here, but this just seems way to general.

It doesn't actually ask any personal questions, so how can it work out what apparent benefits one person gets compared to another?

Doesn't really tell you anything. Apart from the fact I pay more tax than I get back.

I have never tried to work it out, but since everything you do and no matter which way you turn, there is tax involved somewhere so I expect most of us are well and truly on the back foot.
