Default Hot water looks dirty ????

Anyone got an idea on this one?

Noticed a few days ago that the hot water in our house was yellow/brown tint to it. Only noticed when you fill a sink or bath as they are white.

Asked our water board if they had been up to anything on the lines and said there had been contractors doing work this week. Advised I flush out my tank and see how it went.
The cold water is nice and clear just no and always has been I think.

So, flushed the tank last night and it seemed to clear.
Tonight, went to run the bath and its back to yellow brown again.

Since the cold water is clean, I suspect there is summit up with the hot water tank.

Its a Powerflow 2000, not much to say about it to be honest.
Five years old now and been fine up till now.

I wouldnt have thought the copper inside the tank will be breaking down this early as it has a twenty five year warranty (if you get it serviced I have just found out!!!!), so would expect it to last for a good number of years to come.

Has anyone else had the same problem with their hot water?

If so, what was the remedy/cause?

Thanks in advance

Jamie

Could it be that something they have done has brought sediment into the house and it's settled in the h/w tank?

CAN you flush it?

Thermostat in the tank corroding? Do you live in a hard water area?

We've got our own bore hole and after heavy rain, our water turns a light brownish colour. Still perfectly safe to drink.

However as you're on mains this wouldn't be the case for you?

edit: oh and also we have hard water

Sounds like the indirect ch heating coil has got a fault, and your getting heating water ? fernox /scale remover into your domestic hot water.

To check, drain the system both sides, and run the CH & HW up to temp...

Then run about half a tank of HW off if the CH side is passing over, the small CH top up tank will be filling constantly or even empty

Sediment is usually black and yellow tinged from the descaler etc..

In the CH cylinder, it will be either full of scale, but still clear...

Check your CW tank in the loft, if thats dirty, then its mains borne crap...

If its clear then your problem is else where

When I lived In Sidcup, Kent many years ago, I was lucky to see 2 years from a thermostat. As a precautionary measure I then changed it every 18 months. Rusty water (non Viz type) was the giveway. Water was very hard.
Best of luck Bob
