Army on 8 Hours Notice To Go Into Iran
The wifes brother has just rung to say he's packing his kit as in the last hour he'd been put on 8 hours notice to go into Iran!?!?
He's a Sergeant in the Army and said a while ago that a lot of gear was being moved to bases in Iraq near the Iranian border and other strategic locations as a precaution.
Anyone else in the army or heard anything about what may be about to happen?

I CANNOT believe this!
IF it's true, HOW can our inept greedy government expect us to accept cuts,, pay-freezes and pension cuts, then go and p*ss the money away on yet ANOTHER war?
And HOW MANY Islamic states will they be p*ss off before they realise that it CAUSES TERRORISM?

Might it not be (if this is true) that we are preparing just in case we need to go in and get any British nationals out given the whole embassy situation in the last few days rather than we are planning a full all out assault and war?

He's a Battlefield Medic (combatant) and gets sent where the sh** is and where injured soldiers need attention before being shipped to medical centres in safe areas.
We cannot understand where exactly they are intending to send him and why he's been given such short notice after he's finished work on base and gone home.
Maybe he's going with a a group of soldiers to protect the Embassy staff that are evacuating?
What can the British Army do with Iran with so few soldiers and Afghanistan on the go?

Same old story. Why are we still falling for this boll*x.
Country is in the sh*t .................LETS HAVE A WAR.
Why do we let these people kill our soldiers to deflect attention from their failings & further their own selfish agenda?

Regardless of what's going on the whole situation is getting a lot worse than we know about.
As for a ground war, forget it. They would rip us to bits. It would be like 'nam again. If it kicks off, I think we would see a series of massive air strikes, inside CNI attacks and take then back 30 years. That or NBC...

Not in the army - but yes, things are happening on that patch.
As soon as the British diplomatic staff were confirmed as being safely out of Iran, the Iranian embassy in London was closed and the diplomatic staff were expelled from the UK.
Worrying development given the view held on Iran's nuclear program - commitment has been given to reduce troop numbers in Afghanistan, so we need to start another war to keep the lads occupied.

Yanks have been on similar state of alert for a few weeks.
Its all about making them think we are doing abc when in fact we are doing xyz..
They are not dumb though, I bet there is worry they may strike first..

I thought the whole point in having a nuke is that no one will use it first.
You throw yours and for sure we'll throw ours back = no one wins.
Or is that too simplistic?
I mean, just what is the point?
They may get a pleasurable feeling knowing that they've just wiped out a whole country, but that feeling will soon subside when they see one heading for them.
I just don't get it.

For them it'd be like a mass suicide bombing, only many of their countrymen don't want to be suicide bombers...

Iran presents a massive threat to the world order and anyone who thinks they shouldn't be dealt with because of their wànky pensions needs their head read. That is all.

I really doubt its true, to start with the British Army have a spearhead regiment that goes out anywhere first, secondly we don't have the troops to redeploy anywhere at the moment.
Sounds like BS to me (and I use to be in that Spearhead regiment )

Iran with nukes will destabilise the whole region.
The day after they announce they have a functioning nuke, we will all need a mortgage to fill up our cars.

Nevertheless, senior members of The Republic's ruling elite cried "death to Britain" having previously exclaimed the desire to "wipe Israel off the face of the Earth" whilst asserting that the US are "The Great Satan". And they are building nukes. So, the question is, do you want this state, the state that allowed the British embassy to be stormed, to have nukes? Answer that question first and build your argument from there.

Hearing George Osbourne call for cuts and then allowing wars to go on is just hypocrisy.

So does anyone one believe that the UK is about to send ground troops into Iran? Nah, neither do I!
Mind, neither am I keen on them obtaining Nukes! I suppose the question is, what do we do about it? Diplomacy? I recall an interview a years or two ago with a US General saying that if they did use air strikes they'd need to do much the same again in a few years. And ground troops surely aren't an option. So what to do?
