Default Virgin Tivo box

anyone know how i can get free installation on this, i begrudge paying £50 for someone to install it for me when i can do it myself.

i've been with them for a few years never missed a payment and have 50mb broadband.

but i'm not as valuable as a new customer who gets the lot for free

speak to the cancelations department, not the main helpline and tell them you want to leave, when they ask why tell them cos you want to upgrade but wont pay £50 installation.

mine gets installed on the 3rd dec

Phone them up and just tell them you want x,y and z and ask what they can do.

That's what we did, and it worked. We paid the £50 though, but got TiVo and 50 meg upgrade from a V+ and 20meg.

To be honest the install looked a bit of a mission, and took about an hour.

It's not too difficult to fit a two way splitter , compression f connectors

Exactly that why I begrudge paying the install fee when I can do it myself to a better standard.

It's not just plugging it in. The extra features all need activating and updating. There are special codes, and... Stuff.

I can't see them just handing over the info.

TiVo install isn't as simple as swapping the box.

I found that after a quick google as the signal levels need adjusting in the cab.

At least theyll be doing something for the £50

With the new 15.2 upgrade, which has been rolled out over the past few days, it's very good. It was slightly slow (changing channels especially) and the "doughnut" appeared now and again whilst it was "thinking" - but 15.2 seems so much better.

I've still got a "Series 1" Tivo (the original Tivo sold in the UK around 1999) that's connected to my Sky receiver - that I thought was fantastic (albeit with a single 'tuner') - but the VM Tivo (with three tuners and lots more bells and whistles) is just so much better. Being able to go backwards through the on-screen programme guide is great, with Tivo just playing stuff from the Virgin Catch-Up TV Service whenever relevant.

When the iPad app launches and they enable the ethernet port for other interesting stuff it will become even better.

Enjoy!

It's not slow, but I thought it might be faster!

The interface is probably the same, I think searches and apps eg, YouTube and eBay seem slower because you have to select the letters using arrows, rather than using the numbers/letters on the keypad.
So, it seems like it takes forever.

There there is updates arriving this week that will iron out the niggles.

It is impressive.

The speed isn't the box, its your levels, or the network you're on.
