My friend's dad was contracted to make the exhaust manifolds...the first attempts by another firm, although looked very pretty was a load of rubbish - it kept cracking.
The problem being was was the design was more with asthetics in mind as much as function, problem is due to that design, the casting would never flow propery. Causing weak/stress points. The replacement design was a more conventional and less pretty one....but at least it didn't crack!
Not alot people know that
vs...
I know the latter looks like a bent tube/welded mainfold, but its actually cast (if it were welded tubular, it probably would have been fine).

My point was actually that they said two 4-STROKE engine on a common crank. What, as opposed to a 4-stroke and a 2-stroke? Anyway, the engine is just a 'V8'. No need for a condescending explanation of what a V8 is, especially for a) a program that would probably only appeal to car nuts and b) is technically correct but complete BS anyway ..
Overall I quite enjoyed the program (missed the first 20 mins though) but there were a couple of those sorts of comments spread through it that spoilt it a bit. On the other hand I saw a tee-shrt for me yesterday. It had "Grumpy Old G$t" on it ....

I saw it and wasn't impressed to be honest, but I don't think the narrator helped.
Mclaren seem **** for ***** sake, and the car won't sell as well as they want. If I was a customer to be told in that programme that the safety cell cost less than 2000 euro I'd be horrified on a £170k car.
About the only bit that intreagued me was the engine uses wet liners.

I watched that last night, well my wife pointed it out and if she hadnt I would have missed it. The show I thought was fantastic, what a great place to work. Just makes you realise the research, work which goes into designing and building their cars.
McLaren must have also used this to market their cars but nevertheless a great British manufacturing industry.

Very little insight, probably because most of the process is top secret.
They put brake discs on with a torque wrench to make sure the wheels don't fall off. NSS I would have been interested to see more about supply chain management. Do they make their own windscreens for example?
Seeing how complicated the wiring loom was to install in those conditions when they had 3 technicians, full access and everything was new, I wouldn't like to be fault tracing on a 5 year old car
Other than the lack of robots and use of carbon fibre, was building a supercar really that much different to building a normal family car?
