When you say you have the bold I assume you have the 9780? If so the 9900 has more of a premium feel to the 9780, has a faster processor, bigger screen and is also touch sensitive and is on OS7. It is a bigger device with a better keyboard and has 8gb on board memory.

BB9900 vs 9700/9780 is simply not comparable,my brother have BB9900 which is lot faster than BB9700 which have before.
Touch screen is not as good as in other touch phones, but still good like nothing.
As above bigger on board memory 8GB which is possible upgrade with MicroSD to 32GB,camera is 5MP etc.

9900 is the top of the Blackberry line at the moment. It is a big leap in that it is on OS7 and with a more powerful processor, better and quicker browsing and you can use both the optical trackpad or the touch screen to navigate, also handy for quick zooming when browsing. I did have one slight annoyance with it, the trackpad is too close to the touch screen in that if I use the trackpad and accidentally touch the screen, it would select whatever was displayed on the bottom of the screen. I currently use the 9860 which is all touch screen, like the Storm, only better. RIM will release a smaller version of the 9900 bold Q1 next year that is similar to your 9700 in size and will also have the ability to act as a wifi hotspot. Note that the camera on the 9900 is fixed focus and not autofocus so may not produce the sharpest images or video.

It all depends on what you want out of a phone and what you do with it. Do you like Blackberry form factor and to a lot of typing, emails etc? take lots of pictures and video, use the internet services a lot or do all your friends use blackberry messenger? If you find your current BB a bit limiting, then a 9900 will not be a huge improvement IMO. The best phone will be one that best meets your needs, however, you can wait forever to get the next phone as vendors are churning them out at a rate.

I really like my 9900 too, makes the 97** look silly and feel cheap lol, even though they are good phones, the 9900 is the premium of the bunch.
Its the transitional phone for Blackberry, moving over to QNX or BBX for the next handsets.
I agree with the above downsides though, battery life leaves a lot to be desired, but swappable batteries and fast boot time can sort that.
No auto focus on the camera makes what should be an excellent camera lack some what. They screwed up there.
The screen res is an improvement too I have to say.
If you are used to the 85** and 97** format it takes some getting used to to hold, but the keyboard is again a premium feel.

Have you looked at the 9810? same specs as the 9900 only got a full touch screen and keyboard, and AUTO-FOCUS camera.
Gotta admit, coming from iphoney, I really like mine. The only picky thing so far is the keys can be a bit small to type numbers on.
But the touch screen isn't that far behind the iphone imho.
