Poor boy. How the hell did he manage to open the door on a spin cycle, need to name the make and exact model so that people are aware of the potential danger. Can't believe some of the comments though after the article..

It was rented hence health and safety executive are going to screw that rental company into the ground if it is to be found an unsafe appliance/faulty etc.
I read this story yesterday and it is both sad and shocking. The only bit of good news in that story is it didn't kill him with the blood loss he would have suffered.

Indesit Company responds
Creda, which is a brand purchased by Indesit Company in 2001, no longer makes washing machines. Which? has recently tested three Creda tumble dryers, with mixed results.
In a statement Indesit Company told Which?: 'Indesit Company has been shocked and deeply concerned to hear about this distressing incident. According to our records going back to 1999, we have not had any other similar cases. The machine would have had a safety lock fitted as standard to ensure that the door could not be opened while the machine was in use.
'Our washing machines comply to all safety regulations and have door lock mechanisms. We would like to reassure all consumers that the reliability and safety of our products is always of the highest priority for Indesit Company.'
Which? will continue to talk to Indesit Company and safety officials to and will ask for full details of the investigation.

someone (not blaming the parents ) probably broke the door years ago and then just forced it shut to hold the pin in. Kid comes along and tugs on it during a spin - door falls off but pin still in, everything stays in due to the speed etc - kid thinks cool and puts his arm in... Bye bye.
As a kid I used to love watching the washing going around...
