Anyone here a photocopier engineer or know the salary of one??

I was told the salary isn't great but you get a car and you work from home yet when I do a google search Im getting figures from £18k upwards... To me £18k isn't bad ???

If they are, they are probably too embarrassed to say so, even though they are better than photocopier salesmen..

It's a technician. Engineers study at uni.

18k is not a good salary, what is it after tax? And then take off the tax of a company car. Pension.

could train a monkey to repair them, the hardware is relatively basic and these days they are made up of modules so they get replaced rather than repaired. most of them are just an over sized, under powered computer with a scanner and printer built in. £18k is good new starter money for that job i would say. having the company vehicle is a good perk if you can use it for anything other than work. typically you can use them for work but not for driving round in your own time. if you used it for that you would have to pay tax as it would be considered a paid benefit.

npower van drove into the back of my missus while she was at lights. he wanted to settle without going through the insurance but she was laid up for a couple of weeks and the boot floor of the car needed replacing so she called her insurance. turns out he wasn't supposed to be using the van out of work hours which is why he wanted to settle. got a call form him a month after the accident to thank us for getting him sacked. not our fault he was driving when he should have been.

Reasonably friendly with the chaps that service our copier. I don't think they are paid loads but seem to manage OK. Living in West Wales, things are a bit cheaper on the whole.

Whether £18K is a good or bad salary depends on what your outgoings are. I know folk on £50K who need all that £50K just to stand still.

yes but that's typical. people living to their means always hoping that the next job will be that little bit extra money.

this recession thing has knocked that on the head. companies are getting away with offering between £15-£20k for jobs that were previously advertised at over £30k. flood of professionals in the market that are willing to take the lower salary because they have to meet the mortgage each month.

Well I am a print operator and I prefer fixing the machines as aposed to using them and to fix the larger machines you need to start at the bottom - photocopiers..... I don't mind doing the same thing over and over again as I do now anyways...

I am currently on £17k a year and the job is becoming stupid. Your expected to do all of the overtime - not to benifit you with extra cash but for the business. Yeah I don't mind doing some but I'm not doing every hour god sends. My life outside of work is far more important to me.

So any pay rise is good.

It's the wife that brings home the money anyway.. She pays more in tax then I take home in amonth with overtime.. makes you sick ....

dont start me on tax, my wage looks nice before tax, pretty much 1/4 of my wage, maybe more sometimes once ive done overtime, last month it was £900 between tax and NI

cant complain though, pays the bills and still have money spare every month. am a mechanical/electrical engineer in the food industry btw

I got a mate like that. He misses earns sheds full of money so he looks after the 3 kids. He says it's ace. Packs them all off to school, quick tickle around the house and off down the gym for a couple of hours.

I had to shake my head in amazement last night whilst scanning our local papers jobs section... the money they want to pay for IT staff is a joke... Hopefully I wont ever need a new IT job!

Support & update as needed all in house IT systems, to inc. email systems & backup stragegy. Travel to our remote sites to give IT support. Provide In house support, and train users on in house IT systems.
Edit & refresh the companies Internet & intranet sites.

I used to work on copiers mate!, it really all depends on the company!

When I started it would have been about 18k + Car + phone etc, but before I left my last Copier company to do what I'm doing now I was on around 25k+bonus+expenses+phone etc, saying that the new starts they where bringing in where starting on 14k no matter what age they where!
The car makes a big difference as long as they let you use it for private use and you dont take the **** out of it!, same with the phone!

At the end of the day its much better than the dole!!

Current job offerings in this sort of section are a joke, We deal with a certain company who are a joke, They have maybe 2 good engineers who still can't fix one of our larger printers and have resorted to blaming the paper used. Pay peanuts, get monkies.

Dell EMC techs get paid top money. 50+ last time we had them on site, still get some shockers considering there product specialists too.

The only way to change this is to pay companies a fixed price per repair then it is in their interest to employ quality staff who clear more jobs per day.

Wages are rubbish i use to pay 18K a year in income tax and NI on £16.50 per hour so the harder i worked the more i got punished yet if i had only done 40 hours a week i would have paid a fraction of that in tax no wonder people live on benefits even when there were jobs

The printers we currently use & repair will not let you scan try to print money... infact they inform the engineers when they connect their laptps - And are then ment to tell us off.... lol.

Well I'm currently on 17.5k as a print operator and I feel the interview went very well...

The salary is £18.5k starting - goes up with more training etc.. - more then Im on now so that has to be a bonus - better hours too.

Company car that you can use for personal use - you have to pay £40 tax a month to the shunts at number 10..

Lets hope I get the job ....

Davy. They pay the road tax. Its a tax as the car is a perk.. You pay tax on company cars.
