Default iPhone question

If you came into possession (legally) of an iPhone that had been disabled by a UK phone provider would it work in another country?

P.S. This post in no way makes any mention of how good or bad iPhones are and whether they compare favourably or unfavourably to competing phones as I am not allowed to profer an opinion on that on SN!

It depends if the foreign network uses the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) to blacklist the IMEI number.

Can you not apply for the phone to be enabled again?

I guess it depends on the circumstances of why it was blocked. if it was simply reported lost and now found I would imagine the issuing network would happily remove the blacklist providing the contract holder was the person requesting it.

Yes you can be un blacklisted, it's a pain and as long as the handset isn't stolen then you should be ok
