Brandy
Anyone else a fan ?
I like a Whisky, preferably a single Malt of a Peaty disposition but have recently (over the last 5 years) got a taste for Brandy, with a fondness for Remy Martin, not exactly the high end but not turps either, does the job nicely. Bought a bottle in Sainsburys the other day, alledgedly "XO", not disgusting but totally nowhere near the Remy, too sweet and lacks the smoky flavour, seems very tame.
SO who has tried other brands, Martell is crap, Courvoisier not that great but who has gone off piste and had some really good stuff, i.e. not the stuff you can buy anywhere, the "special" stuff, those expensive bottles you see, are they worth a try, am thinking of going for a £100 bottle for my birthday if anyone thinks its worth it as a treat.

And if you do go for an expensive xo stick with the remy, when i'm felling flush i treat myself to a bottle but usually buy it at the airport for £60 instead of the £100 or so charged at normal shops, and as before you will struggle to find better at double the price.
I'm just getting into whisky any recommendations as it seems we have similar taste buds.

Indeed he is. On the Rémy Martin tonight (Couer de Cognac, not Louis XIII Black Pearl Limited Edition). I'm not convinced there's a huge difference between a £45 and £150 bottle. It's bit like high-end stereo where you can spend another bag and barely notice where it's gone unless you're a proper connoisseur. Having said that, I've never been on a tasting course or read any books, I've always been shít-faced when convinced by mates to buy £30 shots. I'm sure they've been smooth and silky and replete with sophisticated undertones, but I have no recollection. Cigars on the other hand.....a critical accompaniment, along with Miles Davis.

Just having a Glenlivet 18 year old now.
Sherried Speyside - delicious!
I can't get on with the peaty Isle whisky's though.
Only ever had Brandy in my youth, usually mixed with a port of some description.

I too like Remy Martin as well, especially using a brandy warmer to get it to a nice warm temp. My favourite whisky is "craggan more", a speyside malt which I find very smooth. I used to like the west coast malts but went of them a little after drinking too much laphroig and eventually went off the peaty taste. However I still like a nice jura.

Was drinking some Hennessy XO last night. Was very nice and smooth.
I am more of a whisky man. My everyday favourite would be Jameson. I currently have several varieties in my cabinet, including plenty of proper whiskeys, such as Chivas, Glenfiddich (Solero, 12 year old, etc etc) Glenlivet, etc.
Have a Johnny Walker Blue label (blended) whcih is pulled out on occasion, to impress people!
Enjoy!
