People who insist on doing everything by phone!
Am i the only one thats like to deal with people by email?
I deal with suppliers all over the world and a new supplier that I am dealing with insists on doing everything by telephone.... why!? I have even told him DO NOT CALL ME! email me! and yet nearly every day hes on the phone with his poorly spoken english trying to communicate with me, I would much prefer to have a record of everything in email rather than spend all day on the phone to people...am i too modern? for me a call interrupts my flow of working so much that I end up getting nothing done

Irish and Scottish fishermen are the worse.
They ring up with a list of about 30 part numbers for me to source for their gearbox.
'Nay, don't have eee'mail.'

I much prefer dealing with people by email as it allows me to do it in my own time (although I am extremely responsive and expect others to be the same) and you have a trail of what was said to whom.
We have IM at work (Office Communicator) and that is a great replacement for email internally for quick questions.

I prefer to do things via email as well, usually just personal stuff. If a company offers a support / help email then ideally it should be within a secure system. An example being a bank. You want to be able to securely discuss things of a confidential nature without having to speak to "Garry" in Bangalore as he won't understand you, and vice versa.
Cogeco (tv, phone, internet provider) tries to pride itself on it's customer service, but when I ask even the most basic question via email (do I need a set top box due to the digital transition if I already receive service via cable) they reply saying I need to call them. Huh? I used email because I don't want to sit in a queue! I have explained to them that a secure system, as mentioned above, would be great, as it would mean I could put in account details and get a nice quick response.

When I first started working e-mail was quite a new thing, and at the time the internal post was actually faster! E.g I could put a document for sign off in the internal post at 10am, and at 1pm it would land back on my desk signed. At the time it would take about 4 hours for an e-mail to arrive.

I prefer to do most things at work by email, unless its just a courtesy call to let a customer know something is live or a change has been done. The main reason for that is that if its in my email inbox, I know its on my to-do list. I'm quite forgetful so it helps. Also very useful for tracing back conversations/information as well.
Unfortunately work don't see it that way and my manager has now made it his personal task to do more using the phone than through email!
