Completely agree. Nothing against Israel, but it does seem that only they and the US don't want this. Speaks volumes and is surely anti democratic?
I think the US, Obama especially, is going to make himself look utterly foolish with this stance.
Much more sensible move by the Palestinians and should give them something to hope for, to abandon violence for, and to unite over.
If it doesn't happen just because the US and Israel say so, I really fear for the future there.

This is the PA declaring statehood not 'Palestine' and it does not include Hamas in Gaza.
Even not all 'Palestinians' want it. Plenty of Arabs in East Jerusalem are parts of/dependent on the Israeli economy, don't need this at all.

What's at the heart of the US/Israeli objection to this? Is it Jerusalem and/or the border definitions? Obama is stuck between the Israeli lobby and his re-election campaign (because of the stupid way the US elections are run).
I have wondered if the Palestinians could lease the occupied territories to Israel for a couple of hundred years, a bit like the old Hong Kong/China deal.
To an outsider it does seem like the Palestinians get a raw deal but so little real support from fellow Arab nations?

they (the palestinians) want their country recognised with the pre 67 borders. the US feels this cant be obtained without negotiation with the israelis - hence the objection (i.e. Veto....)

The Arabs should be grateful for what they have, if it wasn't for us and the Yanks, Egypt, Syria and Jordan would all be part of Israel

That will be because the Palestinians are the pikeys of the arab world. Syria Jordan and Egypt have all tried their hand at exterminating them at one point or another.

Sovereignty like political power grows out of the barrel of a gun. Israel is free because its citizens will take up arms, same with the US...nobody dictates what they do.
If the PA gets 'sovereignty' then it is a kind of fake sovereignty, given by the international community. The PA won't be sovereign it will be owned...double owned because it exists on welfare from Europe and the US.
