Recruitment Agencies
I just wasted a tenners worth of petrol and 3hours of my life thismorning.
Sent an agency my CV a few days ago, they asked me to come in for an interview. The interview consisted of me filling in a form with all the details that were included in my CV.....that they already had.
Then comes the clinker, do you have your passport? nope, don't have one. Do you have your birth certificate? nope, its not something I usually carry around. I did have my drivers license but no, that wasn't good enough as they couldn't verify my nationality.
WTF is going on? What does my nationality have to do with anything? I have a National Insurance Card, 10 years worth of work referrences and the daftest Larne accident one could possiblely have!
What a waste of a morning. I am sick of having the fill in equal opportunities forms too as its clearly geared against my religion and NATIONALITY!
Rant over, time for bacon sandwiches!

Next time grow a beard, wear a gown and go in smelling of curry, you might stand a better chance!
Joking aside, it's the same over here even with agencies it's not just a case of phoning them up emailing in a cv and getting a start anymore.

I just don't understand why in more than one form, I have to tell them what nationality and religion I was. What difference would it make to myself being able to do a job?

They are only covering their backsides.
Quite common for them to ask for ID. They usually require two forms of photo ID.
They should have asked you what they wanted before you turned up. Very unprofessional.
If you want a job though, looks like you will have to either buy a passport or get a copy of your birth certificate.

Recruitment consultants are scum of the earth, worse than estate agents.
'Mate' at uni became one, doing really well at it but he's a ****....and that is the reason for his 'success'.

I have given up with agencies that expect you to come in - more often than not it's just a ruse to increase their database!! Mate of mine checks out where they're based on Google streetview as apparently a lot of them are just home based with a Monster account for sifting through CV's

There are agencies that you have to pay in order to find you jobs. This can be a better situation since you are technically a customer and its not so difficult

I hate it when you go to see someone; interview, meeting etc & then they ask for some specific info before they can proceed like a passport, birth certificate, gas bill etc................
Really pisses me of that they don't ask you to bring what they need as proof.
It's not like they havn't done it a hundred times before!!!!!!!

I am qualified for **** all so, I am open to any job path as long as it isn't retail. The problem is that most places are only willing to give temporary contracts which is not what I'm after.

I really should have billed Network Recruitment for £30 of wasted petrol plus my time for sending me to an interview for plant diagnostics technician which tunred out to be a welder/fabricator/mechanic for combine harvesters and ploughs.
The employer was non to impressed either when I told him my welding skills were fine - as long as he didn't mind a load of bird dropping spatters all over the place and WTF has this got to do with machinery control systems.
