Anyone got any experience of moving to the states to work in IT?
I was going to go with computer people international but got ar$ed off waiting for the visa to arrive, so kicked it in to touch.
Is it better going to a US recruitment agency? Any other better UK based agencies than CPI ?

Well, I have, sort of!
Our company (Apple Macintosh Software Development) has an office in the USA, and I seem to spend my time flitting between here and there. A few of the chaps have now got work visas as they are being based out there for a few years and the same might happen to me.
probably not what you're looking for though.

Got a mate who's gone out to Florida to work . I will drop him a mail, as I'm unsure which particular hoops he had to jump through.
I did 3 months out there in 2000 ( Dallas, TX ), but that was with a company that I was already working for, so not much help, really.
Cheers
Steve

I lived in US for 3 years and still spend a lot of time there (4/5 months a year (got back last night to a lonely Scoob, I still have a home there too). Getting a work visa isnt easy. I have a registered business there and have never had a work visa as I dont need one (dont work when I am there). You need;
1. $1m+ in a bank (verified)and tell em you are setting up a business that will employ six or more people.
2. A company to sponsor you (essential w/out $1m)
3. A very unique skill that is in demand in the USA.
Its not the defintive list but gives an idea. A really good Lawyer specialising in INS work is a BIG help.
Try looking at this site for more info. I am sure there will be others that offer help/info.

Anything on the I-129 petition info is what you need + other bs that goes with it.
Hope this is of help and good luck?

I work with a US company on a regular basis and they HAD been cutting back in a major way work-wise.
Thankfully, things are picking up, albeit slowly.
Love working with Yanks - such POSITIVE people to be around, in comparison to some of the miserable gits I've had to work with over here.
Fosters I can put you in touch with a mate (English) who's working in BOSTON at the moment. He's been there for 5 years and knows the score.
