Default Noise - what to do

OK.

A neighbour of mine (not next door by the way) has one of those stupid and unnecessarily loud motorcycles by the name of Harley Davidson.

Now, every weekend he generally attempts to fire this thing to life early morning.
Now 9am in my book is early morning, especially if you're trying to have a lie in.

But......................
Yesterday morning and this morning the b@stard had taken this stupid bike to work.
Both mornings he took several times to bring this thing to life at 6:15am, before spluttering up the road!

Apart from him being an inconsiderate *** (refer to a southpark episode)

What could be done - noise police be interested?

So he can't go to work on his bike because you don't want to be disturbed.

How rude of him

Don't get worked up over it

Urban, I'll trade you the motorbike for my neighbours child ringing my doorbell every morning and the noise of the elevator going up and down in the mornings and evenings as the stairs are just so last year for some....

I can understand your annoyance however I am a bloke with a number of motorcycles some of which are noisy. I leave home around 6am weekdays and if on the quiet one start it on the drive however if I am taking the noisy one(s) I normally push down the road a bit before starting it..............unless the neighbour has annoyed me in which case it is warmed up in the garage, house vibrating

9am at the weekends though, I think you are having a larf

I used to have a neighour that would wheel out his Westfield on Webbers at 7am on a Sunday morning - tweak the carbs and generally make a nuisance of himself. Turn the car off and wheel it back in?

WTF? Why not drive the f*cking thing?

When I was RC racing I'd have some very early starts - My H&S 5" Jap style exit eggsauce used to upset the neighbours royally (on the scoob, not the RC car )

Perhaps if you speak to him and explain he might push it a little way and start it up there ?

Dont know why bikes have to be so bloody noisy, Mopeds sound like a wasp in a can, Sportsbikes are noisy as standard and then most get fitted with an aftermarket Megaphone and Harleys just sound ****, and the chimps that ride them ride around thinking they are oh so cool but in reality they just look like an accountant at the weekend trying to be all Hells Angel and cool, "look at me" WOP WOP WOP WOP.

I would say 9am is the time at weekend that its ok to start making noise and 8am for weekdays, someone just round the corner from me has a scooby with a very loud exhaust and he goes to work about 6am I noticed recently that his semi detach neighbour has put his house up for sale....

I presume you don't have kids if you think 9 is a lay in?

Jeez, 7 is a lay in by my standards.

Stop moan FFS. i would hate if you lived near me when i had either the Tuscan OR the spec C. Most weekends we were off to a show or track so would be easily a 6:30 am start. the spec C was rather loud the tuscan was a little louder. never had a complaint

A complaint about noise from other vehicles on a scooby forum? Mine eyes must be deceiving me

The weekend thing is acceptable. My neighbour fires up the lawnmover (one of those sit on quad jobbies) at 9am Saturday mornings or the hedge strimmer every other weekend. I live next to a dual carriageway so I've got a fair tolerance for noise. Earplugs are a reasonable suggestion if you need your lie in to extend until 10am.

Have to say I think you are pissing in the wind with this one on a Scoob forum. Pots and kettles and all that.

Anyway Harleys are cool, just be thankful you have a cool neighbour.

Oh and 9am on a weekend is not early.

I agree with that statement now that we have kids. But to be fair, I would be pretty p*ssed off if I didn't have kids and was woken up at silly o'clock on my planned lay in day.

Funny because I've been watching Sons of Anarchy the last few days and they do put an emphasis on the noise they make, yet never show scenes of them refuelling!

No they aren't. They have to meet very tight noise regs just like cars do. you'll not tice a noise difference over a car.

I do agree with having a word with the chap especially if you have young ones or soemthing.

Why is the first reaction these days call the council or phone plod? What happened to a simple word in the shell like?

Ok, probably not, its just that everyone I know with one has a "Tamagotchi" exhaust or whatever that usually is stamped with "not for road use".

Agree that a quiet word is the best policy, save the more Draconian options for if that doesnt work, I can respect someone saying somethign to my face in the first instance but
going to the council is just sneaky unless all else fails.

I seem to have managed to get a message about speeding across to our speeding neighbours without offending them or even saying it was them, people arent daft, its easy to escalate things by yourself before they have had any right of reply, these things can take time, a little bit of compromise and delicacy to get the desired outcome.

Right

9am - no problem
6:15am most certainly pisses me off

And my Impreza does not have an unnecessarily loud exhaust either

I've no intention of going to the council
If he drives that thing to work next week, then I'll have a word
You have no idea what it sounds like though - stupid bike sounds like it does want to start and when it does start it sounds like it doesn't want to keep going
