yes a couple of times -- My grandfather has a couple of condos in St James
Oistins for the fish market -- on a thursday night (i think) is very good fun
Bethsheba - on the rugged east coast is worth a look -- together with the Crane Hotel
but the food is a bit naff and expensive for what you get
mullins bar, just up from Holetown -- often gets into the top 10 bars in the world, so good for a eve drink
the sea is very warm (west coast)-- and snorkling brilliant
I quite like it (wife thinks it is a bit boring)
oooh and Whitesands if you fancy a bit of windsurfing
i usually hire a mini moke - great fun

yes , 1996 at end of trip from Cran Canaria on Swan 65 , should have been on Mount Gay Rum race but we started late ( by a week) .
Went to the harbour there ,something ... sound, deep ..? ,, kicked out , then moored off beach there along with all other travellers.
I was immediately dispatched to the bus station with a sail we'd blown out ( was the only white dood in a crowd of several hundred natives ) and travelled to St Phillip , six Crossroads where spent the next several hours repairing it personally at Doyles loft, whilst crew members languished at the yacht club .
Made up for it the next few nights at the Nightowl - on the way up the west side of the island( had to swim back to the boat ). The countryside looks a bit like Devon , only quite a bit warmer - actually slightly oppresively humid ( january )

Been a few times - A few years ago though. We stayed near holetown, up the west coast from Bridgetown. Hotels were a bit on the basic side but were made up for by great beachside bars and restaurants (Brown Derby springs to mind - I think it may have been rebranded now as http://www.thebeachhousebarbados.com/)
We took Boyces Coach Tour to the flower caves (although the "Flowers" (some kind of Mollusc) were all dead, it was a fun trip)
Depending on your age and attitude to getting rather drunk - I can say that I enjoyed the Jolly Roger Cruise - They have free beer and, from memory, 3 strengths of Rum.

I did a few beers, a few #1. Rums, a couple of #2. Rums the rest was a blur
I may be wrong but the last I heard from friends was that Barbados had got STUPIDLY expensive - We stopped going a few years ago because it was getting fairly painful £££ wise

Mount Gay rum is luurvely! (You can get it in the UK)
If you smoke, prepare to be hit on for free **** EVERY 5 minutes, some can be quite daunting and would not give up. But most people there are lovely.
It's also nice to see the Caribbean without being enclosed in your camp, i.e. in St Lucia, Antigua and many others, the majority of resorts are all inclusive areas, gated off to the public. The majority of Barbados was open, you could walk across the road and buy a beer.

I like to have had more time ( money ) to look around , the top is supposed to be quite different to bridetown etc cos its exposed to the trade winds . A lot cruising boats miss out the island since its a 100 mile beat to windward , but consequently its your first destination after leaving the Canaries

If your staying bridgetown area where abouts? We stayed in st lawrence for 1 night and that was enough. we prefer the west coast hotels, so far we have stayed Almond beach Club & spa which is NO kids and have access to Almond Village, Discovery Bay, Sunswept beach, Sunset crest apartments, Sandridge altho this was demolished for condos.
Depends on what you want to do really. I would say hire a car tho. The roads are easy once you work them out. Dont expect to rush anywhere
Hurricane season is around now, i know my cousin had flash floods last week in St Phillip,

Tax is quite high on certain items, cars have around 40% added. From memory talking to my cousins boyfriend, a spec C out there would be around 200k barbados (65k) which obviously is more than 40%
If you want to see the barbados motorsport head for bushy park

Its lively. depends what you want from the holiday, we have always prefered the west coast (holetown/st james) as its fairly quiet.
Tripadvisor is usually a pretty good idea on what hotels etc are like. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/

this fella was wondering what to get his girl Wendy for her birthday. He decided to get her name tattooed on his tadger so when he made love to her she would see her name in all its glory. flaccid all you could see was the first and last letters. He meets a big black guy from barbados in a pub toilet and while standing taking a **** at the urinal he notices the black guy has a W and a Y tattooed on his tadger as well.
"oh do you have a girlfriend called Wendy too...." says the bloke
"Nah man, it says Welcome to Barbados, hope you have a nice day"
I'll get me coat
