Default McRae at Fault for Helicopter crash

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/se...licopter-crash

The former world rally champion Colin McRae has been held totally to blame for a helicopter crash that killed himself, another man and two children, including his son, after a judicial investigation.

Sheriff Nikola Stewart said the racing driver was guilty of "imprudently" and "unnecessarily" taking the helicopter on a dangerous low-level flight into a heavily wooded valley in 2007 to thrill his passengers, despite having no pilot's licence for the aircraft.

So here we have the legendary McRae flying like a knobjockey without a license, killing himself and several others.

Hardly a glowing report.

Showboating gone wrong, he wasn't the first and won't be the last.

Still a legend in my book though

Oh and...

'She confirmed the driver, who became world famous for endorsing the hit computer racing games Colin McRae Rally and Dirt...'

Erm...

Its a shame he was a ledgend in a car in a rally, but he was a stupid man for his actions on that day.

I dont even break the speed limit or take any risks with my daughter in the car, her life is too precious to me and the rest of my family.

Its such a shame and a waste of young lifes that could have been avoided.

Would you not seek compensation if an unlicenced driver killed your kid then?

No. How does any amount of money replace a child?

It doesn't, but it doesn't make you any less entitled to compensation.

How would you get it from somebody that also died in the crash? Does taking his family to court help anybody?

He was always a risk taker on the stages, its what made his name. Guess it was something he couldn't turn off at home.

Whatever the circumstances a tragedy all round.

Yeah of course you would, and you'd do it weather the pilot was alive or dead.

Compensation would come from his not insubstantial estate.

It will not replace a child but as said above it does not mean that compensation should not be paid.

I don't think his family could be held responsible for it. I'm not a lawyer but I'd assume it would be whatever company manages his estate for which they would be liable for.

If he wanted to fly without a license and show off then good luck to him, but to do it with a passenger and 2 very young children on board is an absolute disgrace. What the **** was the man thinking.
And even worse, he didn't even have permission from the lads parents.
I really hope the young lads parents get all the compo they deserve. No it won't bring their lad back but it will make the rest of their lives a lot easier.
Yes he was a legend in a car and did great things for Subaru, and yes I watched in ore at him and what he was able to do. But I can assure you I will not have a sticker on my car with his name on it.

An extreme error of judgement cost the lives of others. Had he survived, he would be behind bars right now.

For one reason or another some people will worship their heroes regardless of what wrong they do. Even alleged peados like glitter still have fans who turn a blind eye, even disbelieving.

The suing thing by the parents is a misplaced 'justice' action, it's something they will need to do to allow the grieving to continue it's course, it helps them believe that their child did not die in vain; and of course it's not about the money, as they would give up every material possession they own if they could have their little boy back. What makes it worse is the fact that he was taken aboard without permission, although i don't doubt that permission would have been granted had he asked the parents, similarly, if the flight was incident free, and the little boy ran home telling his parents he had a ride in Colin McRae's helicopter, they probably would have been as chuffed as he was.
