If you have never been to a race, you have no idea.
I went in 2000 ans 2002 and loved both. The noise is feeling as the cars rush past just 10 metres away (if you get a good seat) if like nothing else.
£200 for a good race day ticket though. Ouchy!

I tend to worry more about the money & weigh up the cost/benefit more now & pick my events carefully.I have to say I have never been to a Formula One event so it maybe my loss.

Don't go to Silverstone. a) it's a rip off. b) it may well lash down all weekend and that is not much fun.
Instead book yourself a holiday for a week or so and work a European GP ito the middle of it. Germany, Italy, Span (not Valencia) etc.
It may seem expensive but the entry tickets are way cheaper than Siverstone as are the refreshments etc. and you get to go sowmehere warm and get a holiday around it into the bargain.
If you can get outside of Europe so much the better. Canada and Australia are the best for all round entertainment especially Australia.... in the city, on track action all day long and lots of night life and a free band at the end of it all .... Simple Minds last time I went and The Who the year before
F1 is great, but you need a bit more than just racing to make it an 'event'.

Can only comment on the Canadian GP as it's the only one I've attended. We went three years in a row, and it was a great experience. My wife isn't a massive motorsport span, but she did seem to enjoy it.
Watching it on TV does not prepare you for the immense noise these things put out. We were in Old Port in Montreal and could hear the cars giving it large on the track.
It really is an experience, and not just the racing, the place is seriously buzzing. Montreal is a pretty great place to visit anyway (ignoring the frenchy aspect of course ) and adding in some racing action it makes it even better.
Weather can be changeable though, we had a tiny bit of rain one year, the rest were very hot, but as witnessed this year, it can, and does tip it down and that just isn't fun, regardless of what track you are at.
I've also been to the NASCAR Nationwide race at Montreal and that was a bit of a giggle. yeah, I know, it's a bit low class, but you can get far, far closer to the track than at F1 as there aren't as many people. We had grandstand seats and after about 30 mins we decided to go for a walk, ended up at a great corner and spent an hour or so there watching some very close action. On F1 days you'd have to be at the track at some stupid hour to get a seat there.
Damn sight cheaper than F1 as well.

Haha yeah! But worth it! I'd strongly reccommend the camping option if the missus would be up for it! It's a great atmosphere and you get to laugh at the queue of traffic you walk past on the way to the track! The world cup was on when we went and the campsite organised a huge marque with an all night hog roast and bar!

I went this year.
Pit lane walk, in the virgin garage and all day access in the BRDC club
Not a chance I could do it with the peasants again, being ferried round in golf buggies while everyone else was walking in the passing rain was a particulary highlight
