As above I'm off to Warsaw at the end of the month. I fly out on Sunday night back Friday Afternoon.

Anyone been or live there and can advise where to spend my time in the evenings. Places to go places to avoid etc

Cheers in Advance

The old town is quite nice, even though it's all fake.

I got ripped off by a taxi driver, got overcharged by 40p apparently between the airport and our office

Food can be a bit stodgy unless you go to high end places.

Do you have time to get outside of Warsaw?

It is quite nice to wander around the old city. Keep your wits about you around the central square / railway station, LOTS of dodgy people there.

Try and find a traditional Polish restaurant, have some meat and perogi. Yum.

As above try beware before bus/railway stations and you should be fine.

Perogi they do OK,but still best one are Russians(with meat) or Slovakian(Potato perogi with Lump cheese ) or you can try sausage(check Hungarian Cabajka) they're just TOP.

And last one enjoy there, don't drink beer there if you like Uk low percentage beer(5-8%),they have beers with lot more(11% and more),they taste as Vodka..

Default enjoy the weather

Polish driving is always entertaining! In reality the centre of Warsaw, like the 5 big cities that resisted a little Austrian chap are largely reconstructed due to bombing.
Warsaw is unusually expensive for Poland, Krakow centre square is very impressive and things are a lot cheaper there.
Beware of the strong beer, a couple of half litres will make you easy prey to the dodgers!
Polish girls / ladees are well fit and dress less for the summer weather, so try not to stare too much!
One of my co-workers got a bad neck in the Czech Republic, as it was summer and his eyes followed the ladies as we drove past!
The Rustic resteraunts are a reflection on the bits of animal we don't eat, unless you are from Lancashire or Yorkshire!
Polish food tends to be pretty heavy going, let alone the pigs knuckles and organs!
But the temperatures are generally good, and Poland is a great place, despite the emigration to the U.K. there are still a lot of Poles left there!

I would think it will all be pretty different to what we are used to and also will be a very interesting stay.

Going by what I've heard watch your wallet as pick pockets are rife!

Default Jolly!

Was in Bucharest 3 days last week, for a 3 hour meeting, off there again for ten days. 32 Degrees last week! Sounds like a jolly! But when it is the heart of the winter -35 C crazy driving, deep snow / ice in Georgia or Poland it is still the same place as the summer, and you have to go!
My favourite is still the Czech border area between Breclav and Vienna, South Morovia. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Like Jura it is a place that re-energises you and you feel humble at the meagre existance of some of the people. We are lucky here to have choices, most of Eastern Europe came out of Soviet control in 1989-1991 giving the people the option of mobility again.
I am sorry if this gives the apparition that people go there for some sort of sex tourism, the reality is that there is prostitution in Amsterdam, and Edinburgh. It was not highlighted, but it is there, and as the "oldest profession" probably will not die out due to public opinion.
Poland is a Catholic country, yet I have been approached in the main street by girls trying to make a living, but have enough sense not to get involved.
The city centre in Warsaw will be busy, so pick-pocketers and scammers will be trying to make a living too. If we decide everywhere is too dangerous to visit, then we will be the poorer for it. Travel allows you to enjoy your home more, as you appreciate what you have!
