Buying a mattress, any reason not to buy the cheapest.
Went looking today for a 135cm mattress. TBH its a subject i have no interest in whatsover, but it needs to be done. After 14 years of night shifts i can sleep on anything, chairs, car seats, under desks and on tables. If thats the case, is there any reason not to buy the cheapest (or at least a cheaper one).

Thats what i thought when i went to have a look at some. After "trying" some out, from £250 to £900 i really couldn't tell the difference. (except i dont want a soft one)

Yep the combination of memory foam and pocket springs is an excellent combo. However don't get too hung up on compositions, only two things matter comfort and support. We all have individual requirements on feel ie soft/medium or firm. Go for a mattress with the feel you find conducive to giving a good nights sleep and adequate support. Also our bodies change so you may find several years down the road an uncomfortable mattress may be your body telling you something! You don't have to spend a king's ransom and never be baffled by bullsh!t or fobbed off by inane salespeople. Above all never be too bashful to have a good lie down on any mattress in a showroom.

I have a pocket sprung (2000) with a MF topper (3"). Be careful where you buy though ! When I first decided on the mattress we wanted it was in Dreams and was listed at £1150 (+£35 del, +£40 5yr g/tee, +£xx disposal of old etc). A few minutes on Google got me the same mattress, albeit marketed with a different name for £385 delivered, including 5yr g/tee. Sleepeezee BackCare Ultimate 2000 (Dreams called it the 'Cairo', now called 'Kennedy' I think)

Guys whilst for some memory foam is the best thing since sliced bread it ISN'T everyone's cup of tea. Infact some people loathe it! Too warm, feels marshmallowy and one lady described it being akin to the bed trying to swallow her up! We're all individuals so always make considered choices. Always go for a feel that you know to suit your needs then consider the mattress composition. Any advisor worth his salt will be able to advise on the best mattress specification to suit an individual. Having said that in my experience most of the big retail outlets have sales advisors who have no experience or background of the bedding industry. More's the pity.

I'm also on the look for a new King Size matress. I know nothing about them.
I don't want anything to hard or anything to soft. Just one that is nice and comfy and will take the odd bit of...........well fun.
Been looking at dormeo mattresses but they are pricey. I've slept on a foam based one before and didn't enjoy it to be honest but that was a few years back.
Looking at Silent Night ones at the mo.

All we have is a pretty cheap Ikea one. It has served it's purpose quite well for cheap one, but it's a bit fooked now. But for less than £100, I'm not complaining.
We haven't got hundreds for a new one, so I think another Ikea one will do. If we get a few years out of it like this one, that's fine.
As for memory foam, I imagine it is different for different people. My Mam hates hers. She finds it really uncomfortable and she gets too hot. But her other half likes it, and it wasn't cheap, so I think she's stuck with it for now.

£400 memory foam mattress, had it for 6 months and I have never slept so good.
Lying in my spare room is a £500 orthopaedic mattress which is going to the local charity shop when I get a chance.
Invest in comfort, you won't regret it

Best piece of advice when I was in the process of buying a matress was from -wait for it- PSLewis!!
"If you want a cheap matress, go to prison"
He was totally right: you spend too much of your life in bed to get a rubbish one!
Get a decent pocket srpung matress with a memory foam top and you'll never look back.

Mattresses last for years, or the good ones do anyway. Far better not to be penny pinching over it and suffering with your back afterwards. There are times when good quality purchases are far more sensible.
